Updated Message Center Filtering

We will be updating the message center filters today for 10% of AsianMatchMate.com users.

This update offers members more customization when organizing their conversations with others.

Some differences you will see:

*Display conversations based on your own preference
*Search the full text of messages to quickly locate conversations
*Search the full text of your messages to quickly locate your favorite conversations
*Create customized labels by selecting a conversation and clicking on the 'Label as' button
*Use the Select button for mass actions like deleting or sending the same reply to several messages

How to customize what you see in your Message Center:

The Show menu allows you to choose the conversations you want to view every time you come to Message Center. You can choose a different option and it will be saved as your new default. The numbers in parentheses indicate the count of unread messages you have in each option:

Active Conversations – Messages you have received from other members or messages you have received a reply on. This is the default setting. Under Active Conversations, you can further filter the list by ‘Important’ or ‘Others’.

Important – Members that are your Cupid Matches, Friends, in your Hotlist, or VIP members
Others – Members that are not in the above 4 categories

Pending Conversations – Members who have not replied to your message yet

Personal Labels – These are the customized labels you can create and add any messages you receive

With each Show option, you can further sort the list by using the Type dropdown:

Unread – Conversations with any messages that you have not read
Read – Conversations with all messages that you have read
Replied – Conversations in which you are the last person to reply
Unreplied – Conversations with messages that you have not replied to yet

Your feedback is important, so feel free to share what you think of the revised MC filtering system.

This change is just too complicated!
Where do you get your ideas from? Can't mail be mail?

Can I auto-block all the messages from fakes pushing the Adulife.com website?

I thought that the site would do it for me but for some reason you tolerate this latest batch of (gold member) fakes...

community replies on 3/27/2013 3:14 pm:
Hi FullOn4U,

Let me explain something that has changed since we switched message center systems. Communication in the new MC is not heavily monitored. Meaning, we don't mark communications back and forth where members are sending outside links as fraud, and we don't monitor those links. Before, messages from members that would be caught as fraud weren't deleted from the database, but just not shown to the user. So you'd get the "This message has been removed for abuse" in the subject line. The decision with the new MC was to allow these types of messages to be visible to the user with control for them to delete it. These both seem like frustrating ways to receive communication, I know. After some talk, we think we still want users to be able to see all their messages, and delete them as they wish, but we are working on adding more fraud preventive measures to the MC. The fraud script we run doesn't always catch members before they send something spammy, sometimes it catches them three days later, 7 days later... we are still going to show that email. However, we are hoping to add some type of highlight to a message that will mention whether this member's profile has been turned off, or if the message is suspected to be spam. Basically the same function as any other email service. You can see the text of the message, but it will be reported as spam.

Wow Aryana, this is more complicated then what was working before.
I have too agree with spunky too. Why the changes? Why not leave us with the old system. It was doing it job nicely.

Aryana, thank you for your detailed response.

I'd prefer the messages to be deleted completely so that I don't even know that they've been sent. We all know the rules - no exchange of personal details until a couple of emails have been exchanged, no external links - if you can't obey the rules your message gets deleted without the recipient being made aware of it, like you never sent it.

You do yourself a disservice though, most of these profiles are gone within 24 hours - no complaints there. However the emails persist.

What is most worrying is that all of these fake profiles are gold members...

Hello Aryana,
Hopefully this will be better with the new features being implemented. How ever I have many messages they keep building every day it is hard to go through each page and therefore the messages are being buried unless the person writes again. Then I can get to it and respond back.

Thank you for the update and clarifying your own filters... I do think it's a good idea to show members everything send, just like in other systems (even if they use a span or junk type folder). At least we can check and decide if it is legit - although I do appreciate that some people may not agree.

I will be interested to see how the new changes work, looking forward to trying them.

If I am among the 10 percent to get it, will try on those filter and give you feedback.

**I still had problem with 2 members so far who I can't read their newest email if they do write to me because of the missing slider on the right. The only way for me to see the bottom where it show the newest message is to refresh the open the page of message from that member and click to recheck the message, then I would see the new message. If too long, The top part could not be visible to me to read too. Also since no slider to scroll I can not read their older message and what I replied back to them.**

Lord, give me strength!
Aryana, have you not read the 40 pages of complaints you have had on the filter thread?
Many members there COMPLAIN about the new message centre, and say they would prefer to use the OLD one. I also posted on Andrews blog that you linked here, and members also stated there that they would prefer the option to be allowed to use the old message centre. What you need for this site is plain and simple, you are over complicating things, and when you keep making these updates, other areas of the site are being screwed up.
I have to agree with FullOn4u, about the messages from fakes, scammers and spammers, any message from a fake for fraud or abuse should be marked the same as it was in the old message centre and read "this message has been removed for abuse"
I really DON'T want to read these spam messages that are landing in my inbox daily here.
I feel sorry for the poor suckers who actually fall for this scam and go and open an account at Adulife to have their credit card details stolen.
Why can't we have an option to use the old message centre?
You seem to like options such as the new Nice, naughty and nasty filter options so why not give option to use old message centre?
If we have to keep the "new" message centre then i would like to see subject lines for each individual email. It's good enough for hotmail, yahoo and aol, so why not here?????
Also i would like to see the date each email has been sent, the "sent days ago" or "months ago" really is not good enough.
Why do i feel like i'm banging my head against a brick wall here?
Seriously i am getting really annoyed with this site, and you are going to lose me as a paying customer if this carries on.

It's bad enough that the fake sites are waging a cyberwar against everyone who signs up here, but to read that this was a management decision to let members see just how much spam they get so they can then decide what to do with it...

Well, that's just about the dumbest thing I've read from AsianMatchMate.com management ever!

The message you're sending when you allow spammers to contact us, or those fake e-mails the site itself sends, is that the spammers are too smart for you, and that the paying customers aren't important enough to filter out the spam.

I pay my money, write my emails to profiles that catch my eye, and then I go to work. I come back, and WOW! I have mail... But then... FUCK. It's more "relovero" or "adulife" or whatever...

Do you have any idea about the unintended consequences here? Instead of this site being someplace to hook up with real people who aren't prostitutes, it's seen as a spammer's delight. What incentive do I have, as a real member, to stay?

I even have my Cupid filter on and I'm still getting the spam mail!

Moreover, instead of fighting this, the direction of those in charge is about cosmetics: home pages no one likes, message centres that get 40 pages full of complaints, a new e-mail system that won't let you attach your profile so that unless you mail paying members, they won't even be able to check you out!

Check your compass, because your priorities are off.

Very simply put, and from all the evidence I'm not in the minority, I don't understand how all these fake profiles are gold members and I don't want to read their mail.

I know many don't agree, I no longer care. I HATE the new messege center and have said so from day ONE. I would love the option to have it back. I could even understand if you gave the option to use the old messege center to those of us who where here when it was in use and NOT to the new people as they wouldn't know what they are missing. They would come in with the new version and learn the new version. I personally would use the old MC in a heartbeat if given the chance and I know others that would as well. There is my two cents.

How did you choose the "lucky" 10%?.

Is this just a test - to see how they like it, before you roll it out to everyone?

Or is this a result of complaints about the changes you already forced on us?

    Quoting  :

This is not "Big Brother", this is spam-filtering.

It already happens in the real world for email accounts - Hotmail, etc and your ISP will be filtering out tons of spam messages without you seeing them or even knowing about them. This isn't something you need to be worried about, this is part of the service you pay for!

The problem with spam on this site is compounded by the new message centre - because you don't get to see many emails, since they did away with titles, your inbox soon becomes blocked up with spam.

It does seem that AsianMatchMate.com has rolled over and given in to the spammers, which is not good coming from a commercial site. They know they have a problem and have decided that, despite what they customers say, it doesn't matter.

But to slap on the irony, several bloggers (me included) have found that if they try to copy these spam emails into their blog posts then the post is denied because it contains "personal details".

So AsianMatchMate.com does monitor content, just not spam emails...

I still miss the folder concept to tuck everything away so the inbox only has emails that I want to see. Selecting filters just isn't the same. Personally, I like the way Google has its web mail set up.

It would be nice to be able to "hide" a label unless if a new conversation comes in. Then that label will show until the new conversation is read.

Being able to apply the same label to multiple conversations seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes that circle just goes round and round.

Agree with everything that FullOn4U said. I also tried to do a blog the other day about the spam messages from Adulife and Rolvero, etc, but my blog was denied by the site because i included the Adulife details. Why is the site happy for these spam messages to drop into our inboxes daily, but as soon as we try to post blogs about it, we are "denied" from doing so.
I had to edit my blog post to remove the website names.
Why not have it here?
I agree with rdy2try4, i would much prefer it if the site got rid of the new message centre and went back to the old way. It was much more user friendly than the new version.
I Hate having to keep clicking "Get more conversations" to scroll down to more messages, what a stupid and frustratingly long winded way of getting to your older emails.
Our feedback is just falling on deaf ears though, so right now i am searching for a different site to go and spend my hard earned cash on, one that is'nt owned by Various Inc, or Penthouse!!!

Giving us choices for setting our own preferences is a step in the right direction but the truth is it's a bad design.

Email is one of the first things people learn on the internet and all of them are designed the same basic way. Selectable folders which typically tell you what needs your attention. IE: (22 unread) Next step is to open up your inbox. Once there you should see
"WHO SENT IT", "DATE AND TIME", and "A FLIPPEN SUBJECT LINE"

Also what happen to? bold, italics, underline, attaching your profile, and spell check?

Improving your email isn't a bad idea but what you did would be like an tire company coming out with a new wheel that's no longer round.

While I understand that changes are not always well received, digital communication is evolving. New devices and platforms are affecting user expectations. Changes to foster accommodation become incumbent upon the site.

I fully understand that digital communication is evolving but email has NEVER changed because it works. Text messaging, IM, facebook, twitter, the endless variety of phone apps, the list goes on and on but part of that list WILL ALWAYS BE EMAIL. You can improve the appearance, you can improve filters, you can add folders, every improvement should make it easier not harder. An improvement should never have to be justified or explained because people will accept it with open arms.

When I go to check my email I want to see one thing, THE MESSAGES THAT ARE IN MY INBOX! When I click on the envelope icon it should take me to my inbox, nothing more, nothing less. Emails are similar to a letter you would send via snail mail. If I don't want it anymore, I throw it away. Now I can't delete any email because it erases the entire conversation not just that email. I don't need or want every piece of information I've shared with someone to show up. If I want to have a conversation with someone I'll use some form of IM or a phone.

Did I just read this:
"We recognize that there are always trade offs, but we have to consider the greater good, some changes are made for reasons that average members may not realize."?

So... Are you guys familiar with the terms "condescending" or "arrogance"?

Once again, you've shown us what you think of us. We tell you what we like, what we experience, and what we don't like, but in essence you're telling us we're too stupid to understand your reasoning...

Thanks! I love a site that presumes itself superior to its membership's intellect.

Just to jump in here for a second..Although I am not speaking for Aryana I do understand why she used the @ symbol. On another site where folks post and leave messages, the use of the @ symbol and # are now in common use. When I send a msg to someone at another site it is always done with the @ in front of their name..and if I chose to post to more then one person at a time or reply to questions it is always done like this @a lady @a man..NO & between the words..Hope this helps.

Hi Aryana, thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to say a lot of what you said just did'nt make any sense at all though.
Where can i start???
You never answered the comment from Heartcollector, who said her messages won't scroll on her iPad if the messages fill the window. I've also seem similar comments elsewhere on this site, in blogs and groups, etc, who say they cannot get the message centre to work on their handheld devices, phones, iPads, etc.
You say the whole reason behind the new message centre is to ease communication between members, on a range of devices, more for phones, etc. Well NEWSFLASH it does'nt seem to be working does it.
If members can't get their messages to scroll down on handheld devices how in the hell is that easing communication for them?
Yet a few members i've spoken to said they COULD easily get and read all their messages with the old message centre using mobile phones, iPad, etc. They have only had problems since new message centre was rolled out.
At the same time, the MAJORITY of your members will probably be accessing the site through laptops or PC's, and it is these MAJORITY of members who would prefer to use the old message centre instead of the new one. I don't care how you try to wriggle out of it, the old message centre WAS much more user friendly than this new one. It was easy, plain and simple, just the way email should be!
I agree with the others who say the staff are arrogant and condescending, we've just been told by Aryana the new message centre is used to close loopholes spammers use to upgrade and email freely.
Clearly it is'nt working because all the spammers from Adulife and Rolvero, etc, are all GOLD MEMBERS here and they already ARE emailing freely!
Aryana how did the management decide the new message centre would be beneficial for the majority of users on the site?
I never once saw a poll done on the site by staff that asked the members how they felt about it. The new message centre was forced on us and we were never asked for feedback or what we would prefer.

Now JT, i have seen many suggestions over the years put forward by members, on this blog, on site support blog, in the Live from A.F.F group and other groups, blogs, etc, to fight the fakes and stop them gaining a foothold on the site. It seems the site just does'nt want to tackle this problem.
Some suggestions to tackle the fakes, (not just from me but what other members have put forward aswel, i kept a note of them).
1. Written part of profiles are reviewed separately from profile photos, by different teams in different departments. This is a stupid way of going about it. Profiles should be reviewed as ONE WHOLE package, by the same team in the same department. Every profile photo should be checked against the written part to check it matches the description given, and also matches description given in the personal statistics. I've seen no end of profiles on here that say the person is white, then when you look at the photo it is of a black or asian person. Errr, Hello, how can the site not see that and get it right?
I'm just asking the site to apply some basic common sense, but this seems to be beyond their understanding for some reason?
2. Use a Tineye or Google image check on profile photos, if they are stolen from porn sites, or photos of famous people (and yes i have seen profile pics of Elivis, lol) these photos should be rejected by the site, and the persons profile should be removed, no question!
3. When i joined the site in 2008 before i could send an email to anyone i had to type in an anti spam number on the profile. These anti spam numbers were randomly generated by the site, and you HAD to input the random 3 digit anti spam number before you could send an email. WHY DID THE SITE GET RID OF THIS FEATURE?
4. The site could use some sort of Captcha device for new members signing up here, and before they can make a profile they should be asked to put the Captcha word into a box.
Also instead of an anti spam number described in point 3 you could also use Captcha on profile pages, put in the captcha word before you can send an email to someone.
These 4 measures alone WOULD DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF FAKES ON THE SITE.
The site just seem happy to roll over and let the fakes win though.
Now Aryana i'm sorry if you think i'm being hard on you, but i really think the management have got it wrong on this BIG TIME!
Why can't they just admit they were wrong on the new message centre and roll back to the old version?
I do have to say well done though for now putting dates on each email sent. Also for saying you'll use a banner or lightbox on the homepage before making any changes to the site in future.

I so totally AGREE with this. If I wanted to have a 'conversation' I would use the IM NOT the MC. Instant message for conversations, emails for messages!!! I am ALLLL FOR THIS. Yes, I know the IM/IMC here doesn't work well, then work on improving that, but I do not that I don't have an email message center AT ALL. Most people have said this. This man so totally outlines my thoughts, thank you very much Sir!! I have Outlook Express for emails/messages and use an IM/IMC such as Y*h** or Sk**e, definitely a phone if it is THAT important/ Any of those if I want to talk directly live time. I do not need them merged together nor do I like it.

Hi Aryana, thankyou for your detailed reply. When you said the dates had been added to the emails, i went and checked this in my Message Centre. The only date shown is for the last message in a "conversation".
I'd like to see the dates for each individual email sent. The only date available is the last message in a conversation, all previous emails in the conversation still read "days ago" or "months ago".
I also agree with JillBlueJack, that the time of the email should also be shown alongside the date, both the time and the date were shown in the old message centre for each INDIVIDUAL email.
As JillBlueJack said the time the email was sent is important, especially if you are arranging a meet with someone on here (if its a spur of the moment, last minute type meeting).
Other suggestions, to start with the new message centre only shows 10 conversations. This is not nearly enough for people, mainly women, lol, who get hundreds of emails on here. The old message centre had 50 emails per page. One click and you could access 50 emails in your inbox. Now you have to click "get more conversations" 5 times before you'll see the 50th email. How is that more efficient i'll never know????
Could you show 50 conversations on the new message centre, 10 is not enough.
Another suggestion, .....folders.
I'd like to see the following......

1. Inbox folder, or you may call it a "conversation" folder.

2. A spam or Junk mail folder.

3. A deleted messages folder. As it is now if you delete a message then it is gone and there is no way of getting it back. What if someone deletes a message by mistake?

Also i'd like to have the option to only delete one message in a conversation. As it is now, if you press delete then it deletes the whole conversation. I don't like this. As MetroMale39 said members don't always want to keep every email sent or received, we should have the power to delete individual emails, and not only whole conversations.

But everything i've suggested was already available in the old message centre, a more traditional style type of email system is what i prefer and is easier for everyone to use. Not everyone here on this site will be computer literate, many people may only have knowledge of using a basic email type system, you should not forget about those people and overlook them, which is what you seem to be doing with this new message centre.

Hiya Aryana, nice pic! One thing I find being a step-down is the inability for me to view how many messages do i have in my inbox. It just says "View more messages". But it doesn't show how many pages as it did previously and it doesn't show as many messages as before in plain sight. Why spoil a good thing just to have a more modern but less functional interface?

Also, Andrew gave me an unlimited Gold Membership that has no expiry date because of my help in beta testing. But when i updated my profile, it changed back to a year. Can you change it back to 0/0/0 again please?

    Quoting community:
@Centaur_UK I hear what you're saying and really do get where you're coming from. When the Message Center was being AB tested, the new message center design won over the old one. More people switched over and communicated through the newer version versus the old one. When we opened the feature to all members, it was also used by a higher percentage than those using the old version. When we rolled it out to all users, there were bugs that affected it's functionality, and we focused on addressing the glitches and are still focused on providing a stable and well functioning MC. While we won't be switching back to the old version, we ARE open to hearing what changes to the current system you would like to see. For example, a detailed time stamp, the ability to delete particular messages from a thread and not the entire thread, a better way to scroll through all messages, the ability to store messages in folders-- we want to hear what you think would better your experience with this system and we will work to implement these in the next phases. I have also reached out to members personally who have been having experiencing issues on mobile to help them and get the bugs they're experiencing fixed.

You provided some suggestions about fraud, and I hope I can provide some insight. 1. In this case, the process is what it is. Our current Report function helps our abuse team to remove fraudulent profiles when members report them. We know that mismatches happen, and have fraud detection and blocks in place that prevent thousands of profiles a day from ever appearing on the site. Our abuse team is very aware of the importance of removing fraud from the site (it's not good for you, and it's not good for us!) and know the most frequent tactics spammers use. We're able to detect a majority of those tactics before they sign up, but if they happen to get through using mismatched profiles, please report them and we will take care of it. This process also helps us detect if those profiles are coming from any new channels so we can better combat the spam in the future. It's an ongoing process, and it is not perfect, but our abuse team focuses on this deeply and is committed to getting rid of it to the best of their ability.
    2. We do use those services you mentioned, but they are not integrated when reviewing a profile. Those services are not perfect either and don't catch everything; it is not the best use of resources to invest in integrating those services because they don't work well enough on the scale that our reviewers face. We have, however, looked into it, and our agents do use those services when reviewing profiles that are reported for abuse.
3&4. New female users are still required to enter a captcha to sign up and a numeric code to send messages. They are required to use this code for an amount of time we cannot share until they become a trusted member. You do not have to enter this number anymore because you're a trusted member, so you won't see it, but a new member will still have to use it.

We understand your concerns, and anything that we can do to improve the never-ending battle against fraud will help both members and the site. We are currently working on a project to add more stops to fraud on the new MC. Based on what FullOn and others have stated here, the first stop we're implementing is hiding spam messages instead of leaving them visible even when the profile has been removed from the site.
Who are these people who liked the new message center because every person I've met from here hates it. Two real women left because the new message center "Was a royal f'en pain!" in their opinion. Thats the PC version of what they had to say. Their actual description was much worse.

You have to remember that not everyone who uses your site will be internet savvy. At the same time, experienced web users look at your email/message center as a flippen joke.

It's hard enough to meet real people and your new message center isn't helping. Things are getting lost, messages are getting deleted, conversations end up being buried under a pile of garbage.

You said the old message center isn't coming back. Fine, but why on earth would I continue to spend money on a website that is actually making it harder for me to meet real people?

i see two worrying problems emailing from a win8 tablet or mobile. In mobile, i am using the default android browser. On tablet, i am using opera. Both worked till the past 24hrs.

The new problem is there is no recognition of the mail being sent after i press the send button. On both the tablet and hp, it simply disappears and doesn't show up in my message box as it usually did before the past 24hrs. I've sent mails to two new men but it doesn't seem to record it in my history of messages.

The ONLY thing i like about the new message centre is the fact that u can see all the past correspondence with that particular user within the frame even if he or u start a new dialogue.

I have tried using your new filters. And it half works. I will help more if you could restore the unlimited 0/0/0 gold membership. Given that an hour of my time of consultancy in sg is worth usd$80, it isn't about the money... AsianMatchMate.com is good in small singapore but i could as easily meet men anywhere since i'm the surprising "sweetly proper outside, naughtily delicious inside".

HD P.S. i usually use non-mobile desktop version on the cellular phone which still works fine for the chatrooms if u use the normal non beta, non-flash version.

P.P.S. wechat (china technology) works fine delivering voice messages, but not AsianMatchMate.com when i tried delivering a voice message to a guy's inbox using the handphone using the desktop version. I would suggest that the previous message centre could be re-adopted, just in re-threaded format but work on your voice messaging function. That is something the other browser-based competitors aren't currently having. I should know! Particularly since your All Friend Finder app is okay but isn't full-fledged.

P.P.S. can i have the unlimited gold membership reinstated because previously your company offered me an lifetime silver membership for something else. I am still alive as u can see... But the silver membership had only lasted a few months!!

P.P.P.S. you will find the pic i'm hereby uploading from my hp not showing up, unless you guys corrected it within the past 10mins. I deleted my previous post ten mins ago... Then realised it may not be my fault.

Another bug is that when using my mobile default browser, when I click to reply to a message in my message centre & I had previously replied to someone else, it uses the username/nick of the previous message, not the current messagee.

This makes it very indiscreet. I don't want the men to know who has been corresponding with me.

Similarly, I now wonder if some of the men have also been experiencing this problem since I find that some of their messages to me also have another woman's username in the title message header.

In another site, I'm able to see which profiles I've recently viewed, up to 20, if I'm not wrong. So rather than seeing which of the men have viewed my profile, being a little "middle-aged", I don't mind helping my short-term memory of which profiles have caught my fancy.

I hope I'm not the only one who would appreciate this kind of help!

Another thing is,.. AsianMatchMate.com has littered my hotlist with people i've not actually met. I would appreciate being able to delete in bulk of 100 rather than the default 40, as time is precious too, so that I'll have space for new people that I actually want to meet or have met!

I have a question, and I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I am beyond frustrated with the from replies from the support team trying to sell me a membership upgrade and not actually answering my questions.

I'm a standard member. I used to be able to reply to messages that were sent to me. Now I can't. When I click "send" it takes me to the upgrade page and doesn't actually send anything.

I have dozens and dozens of messages in my inbox from gold members. My ability to reply to those messages is, presumably, part of what they're paying for with their membership fees. So what happened?
I agree, as i'm a gold member and i paid for my membership here, why should i continue to pay for a gold membership in future if standard female members can't reply to me?

I've got the cupid filter on and I'm still getting e-mails from outside my cupid settings... So that needs to be sorted out.

But success! I'm getting less from adulife.com... Of course, it's now a cyberattack from limlove.com

The new home page is too damned busy! There's just too much there. I don't care about "international member activity"! I don't care that it's "live" and no, it doesn't add to the "energy" - it just makes this seem more like the fake sites that are just trying to get credit card info.

Who really wants add space on the home page? I don't like looking at drawings of penis/penii - what's the point of having a filter for pictures but no filter for the ads?

There's no colour, no life. The fonts are too small and bold. The icons on the left column hurt the eyes after a while - try it! See how long it takes before your eyes don't like the very stark contrast of a boring white background and those tiny bold black icons!

And again, get rid of the "porn stars hate him" ads... Totally classless, and quite frankly, totally gay.

Needs a rethink.

How about an option for paying members not to see those worthless and hateful ads? There's nothing wrong with the size of my penis, and I resent paying to see ad after ad after ad suggesting there is!

One other question comes to mind: why is it that I get e-mail notifications (that little star thing in the top toolbar) from real profiles but not notifications from spam?

How is it that the star icon knows real mail from spam but somehow the system can't prevent that spam from reaching me?

Okay, I just got the 'newest version', and I STILL don't like it. Although yes, there are now titles for 'cupid matches' and 'friends' and 'hotlist'... no clue why I would use that last one but maybe someone will.... ALL THE MESSAGES STILL COME IN AS THEY DID!! This is NOT a 'folder' system where they are divided and I have just the ones I want to look at, I MUST CLICK ON that heading to get those ones; otherwise, they are all still in one long, ongoing list with no subject lines, nothing to discern what is what, just one jumbled mass EXACTLY LIKE THAT F&B site, which I didn't like that their either!! I loved the old message center, I wanted an EMAIL system not a message system. If I wanted to use the messaging I would use the messaging. Messages and Emails are a normal and vital part of everything. I still do NOT like this new system. People have stated and it is still the same you only get to see 10 messages unless you click 'more' at the bottom, and it is I repeat a jumbled mess of messages all slammed together where you can't see one from the other as they are all stacked like pancakes. SORRY... I STILL DON'T LIKE THIS. I WANT MY OLD MESSAGE SYSTEM BACK OR SOMETHING THAT RESEMBLES IT!! I am sure I will get negatives...that is okay. I know many more that do not like the new system. I would at least like the option to use the old one and have the new people signing up get this thing. I really hate it.

Okay.. I am going to try this again.. and I am making a COPY of this as it has been deleted once already so I have proof of it, as well as a screen capture.

I just got the 'newest version' and I STILL HATE IT!! Everything is still all bunched together, there are no real 'folders'. You have one giant line of things exactly as before. If you want to see the 'friends' or the 'cupid matches' or 'hotlist', although I personally wouldn't use that one someone may, you have to actually CLICK On that again; otherwise, you have one giant pile of messages with only 10 showing and you have to click 'more' to get more. This is not a FOLDER system at all. I will repeat what that other man said that there may be text messaging, IM, f*ceb**k, t**tter, the endless variety of phone apps, the list goes on and on but part of that list WILL ALWAYS BE EMAIL. I don't care what format you are using EMAIL is an essential part of anything and this newest version is not even comparable to it. I do not want a giant pile of messages like a pile of pancakes that you have no subject lines, no folders to put to the side and narrow down the 'inbox' itself and you can go back later and read when you wish, and no trash that you can retrieve something if you wish either. I still would totally prefer the OLD message center and know that nothing I say or others is going to really matter. You wanted input, people are giving it, and it isn't your fault Aryana, but no one seems to care that people just don't want this new system. I again would prefer the option to use the old one and have the new people get this one as they would learn it as it is and not know what they missed. Selfish of me to say, but I said it. I know I will get negatives, but that is okay. I know many more agree with me that they just don't like this new message center at all.

I have to agree here and my self mentioned the emails are being buried. If you really need to update the message center should have followed the same program from the original message center using the same features with some extra added bonus features. It does look like a giant pile of confusion to me that you have to go through and it is a real pain. From my stand point no one likes it.

If members posts are going missing here, it reminds me of loads of posts going missing on site support blog, when tons of people used to complain about all the fake profiles on there. Site support just used to delete the comments. I am sure this is why the site removed the site support blog from the homepage, because they did'nt like all the negative comments and feedback they were getting there about fake profiles. If our posts don't break the terms of use then they should be allowed to stand and should not be removed by anyone. Its called freedom of speech. The site should allow feedback, be it positive or negative comments about the site. Fact is, this facebook style of messaging IS A REALLY BAD DESIGN, and i'm sure many more members would complain about it if this blog post was linked to the homepage with a yellow banner, just like the content filter blog was.

Yes I remember site support blog would delete comments on fake profile in their blog posts and they still do from delete reading the blog posts from people. I know one thing they would put me on depend myself until finally complained. Now I rarely leave a comment in their blog. When I do comment now at least they are responding now? I think comments or posts should also stand too as long they are following site rules. As long some one does not abuse or swear at staff or another member.I believe in the freedom of speech too. I think it is important to give feedback so we can debate it. Now for the yellow banner. That is ok to show the yellow banner to let members know of any changes as long it is only 24 hours-48 hours range. Then they better take it down. Because if it is up any longer than that just going to cause problems.

And again, I'm still wondering why the "notifications" (that red exclamation point in the tool bar) knows when I have spam in my inbox and won't show that I have any new messages, when the inbox says I have three (all three of them spam).

It just doesn't make sense.

community replies on 4/5/2013 12:50 pm:
Hi again rh,

If a profile is detected to be fraud, that information would be deleted from your notifications history. Those emails aren't hidden right now from the message center, but we're working on hiding fraudulent emails after they have been detected. We're trying to get this change rolled out quickly.

I'm thinking that AsianMatchMate.com should have a game of spam bingo, or lottery, or game.

Every time you get an e-mail outside your cupid preferences, you get a point.
Every time you get an e-mail from an obviously fake profile, you get a point.
Every time you get spam directing you to another site, you get a point.

We could set up a score card with the number of e-mails in one column, and the names of the various sites in the other column. Or maybe replace the number of e-mails with the types of e-mails - everyone here has a tiny dick, I won't keep my e-mail here much longer but I've followed your profile for weeks (sender profile created less than 24 hours ago), etc.

What do you think? Think we could get a game like that going?

I'm not a suspicious guy, but I'm wondering if the Penthouse group is either allowing all these obviously fake sites to post for free, or if they are simply extensions from the parent company. It doesn't make sense how they can all be gold members for a day, have their pics up in less than a few hours, send out a few hundred e-mails, then delete their profile. It doesn't make sense how the spam can be filtered out at the notifications level but not at the message centre level. It doesn't make sense that I can get mail from Germany when I have my Cupid restrictions on.

Am I wrong?

I like the game idea. I'll work on it, but suggestions are welcome!

community replies on 4/5/2013 12:45 pm:
Hi rh1972,

The rise you've noticed in spam is because of two different things: 1 is that a group of spammers has been using stolen CC #s to purchase memberships, and 2 is the change we made in the message center to show you all your messages (even if the profiles were later deleted for spamming.)

Our abuse team is currently building a tool to tackle this kind of spam in particular. Once it's put to work, they'll be able to identify these types of accounts before they can sign up and email en mass. Another change we're making is implementing some new fraud checks that will be added to the message center within the next couple of weeks.

We're also changing the policy again so messages that are detected to be spam are automatically hidden like they previously were.

(It this appear twice, Please delete the first one I post that not showing the screen shot,Thank YOu.)

I got the updated new message center yesterday. Did not have time to play with those new new button until today.

But before trying out those new buttons, this was one thing what I noticed when checking to open on the message list on the left. with this new updated, it took longer now for my message center list to show. Before was like 2 or 3 second I would see the list. Now it could around 8 second timing(sometime a bit less and sometime more timing. Look at the screen shot in which I use the add on on firefox call 'Extended Statusbar' to give me those information.

Now,After clicking on the Show Menu, and play with the setting to each of those groups under active Conversations and see what happen, I wonder if there a way reset back that I did not do any setting.

Well, before I try and play with the Show Menu setting, when I got new message, I click to check message, I would see right away the new message on the top on the list to the left.

After just trying those new setting, I don't see most time now the message right after on the message list when I click to check on my new message. Instead, I need to click on the Show menu to find out where is this new message. 2 more step to do and click on the new message and not straight away one click and another to click on the message to read.

So, is their a possible way to reset that I not want to use the show menu just want it to be like before without the show menu?

Other then that, I don't see any new bugs other then the old one that I experience so far, which was I can't open messages from 2 members properly, because of the missing slider to the right.

**About the add bling to message button. I noticed that button on the message center most time to add bling to use on message only work for page 1, other page don't work, I need to type the bling code for those bling on other page instead if I want to use them.**

***SOrry to mention this again as I had posted about this to Andrew blog when he post about he message center something ago. WOuld be glad also if each of those message conversation show the actually date and even time stamp when the message was sent. The Months ago, weeks ago, days ago, Hours ago, minutes ago, that don't really help much when want to have proof of when it was written. Thank you for reading***

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose; It is the function of IT bods to mess around with what works to result in a new way and a new path. 90% of these new things will suck, and the other one was rubbish.

Yesterday, I had given feedback about the 'Show Menu'.---->

After just trying those new setting, I don't see most time now the message right after on the message list when I click to check on my new message. <----

Well, not sure if something was done to it. But today when I checked on my new email message, the new message pop up right on top without me having to click on more button to find the new message. So, seem that issue was gone and fix.

But the loading time for the message list to show today take even longer time. SOmetime more then 10 seconds.

Good job in filtering out the obvious pay sites - I've gone a few days now without those very lame solicitations (who comes up with those scripts?).

So, any news on being able to attach a copy of my profile - like the old system?

community replies on 4/12/2013 1:10 pm:
Hi rh,

One reason we removed the ability to attach your profile is because our plan is to open up profile views to members of all levels. For the next phase of the new message center, we will be building a quick reply function so you can write and save whatever message you want, including text from your profile.

I just got the updated version of the new message centre. It really is far too complicated and as others have said here it just does'nt work right half the time.
We really would be better off with a more traditional simple email type system on this site, more along the lines of the old message centre.
One thing i am pleased about though is the removal of messages from fakes, spammers and deactivated profiles, so thanks for that.

Hiya Aryana!

I'm not here to be angry,..- in fact, I think you're doing a marvellous job commenting & getting back to us - I just hope you won't suffer from burn-out. Just wondering when will I know how many messages do I have in my inbox? Is it being worked upon? Actually if it'll make it easier, I thought the previous messaging system worked fine,.. although if the IT expert could thread it,.. it would be better, but otherwise, it was functional. Because sometimes, now, when using the android default browser to scroll, at times, I could not read the new incoming messages in full, it does not display completely. Nor can I scroll up to read the previous email history in the thread. I kid you not! The previous messaging centre was fine in displaying.

Also, I've been sending messages, but they do not appear in my message centre. When do they appear in my message centre? It's quite arbitrary,.. out of 20 different messages that i send,.. only 1 will show up in my message centre. I've no idea why! In their email profile, it says that the message is "Sent" before the "Sent" notification disappears. But when I view the profile again, sometimes it shows that i've a past history with the member, and that I did send him ONE email, but 90% of the time, it doesn't show that i've emailed the lucky bugger

Thanks for reading!

Hi Honeydewy,

The number of emails you see is the number of messages in your inbox, but are organized based on Active and Pending Conversations. If you've initiated contact with someone who has not replied yet, that message would fall under 'Pending Conversations.' Ongoing conversations back and forth would be found under 'Active Conversations' in the dropdown menu. If you want to see all messages you haven't read yet, you could sort bu 'Unread.' I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Much prefer the old message center. I don't want to see email in a string of emails, including my auto-reply. The option to see "all" only if i desired was much better.

Also....I have no idea how to find the emails I have sent... the ones that I initiated contact. Why is there no "sent" mailbox like all other message centers on every other email system has? I don't want to categorize my contacts. As a woman, very many emails are from men I am not interested in; hence the auto-reply.

Hi tresennui,

We're still working on bettering this current system, but unfortunately cannot revert back to the old message center. These changes were recently put into place by the founder of the company who hoped they would benefit users. If a message you send to another user has not been replied to yet, it would fall under 'Pending Conversations.' Otherwise, the message will be seen under 'Active Conversations.' Thank you for your feedback as we continue to work on this.

BLANKETY BLANK BLANK

My contacts in the message center are gone, past and present... I cannot see or read my eamils. Although your format is visible, none of the buttons work. Now why am I here if I can't read my mail???

Are there more than 5 pages here... because I keep trying to get to the end of the line to see if my messages posted, but I can't seem to find them.

Wouldn't it be wiser in this context to post the lastest info/glitches FIRST?

Anyway, I'll try again; I haven't been able to access my mail and mailbox for 4 days.

If you do change things around here, how hard would it be to put up a noticeboard page that's easy to find, so that people wouldn't get so upset when things happen to them without warning?

Hiya Aryana - hope you enjoy this spur of the moment poem at the end of this post, I would like to know why is it that sometimes my auto-reply gets sent, sometimes it doesn't? I thought the auto-reply gets sent whenever someone replies to me, regardless - even if I was the one that initiated contact?

I would like that the auto-reply gets sent automatically, when someone emails me. Regardless even if it's also the umpteenth time he got it. Thank you once again HD.

Is anyone reading this? I've not gotten a reply to my last post here yet... did something happen?

Hi honeydewy,

Your auto-reply is to send only after the first email arrives from another user. If there is a several week long break between the last email they send and the next, auto-reply will be sent again. It will not be sent if you initiate contact with another user.

I've switched my auto-reply signature off, then on again. I must help myself, take initiative right? But there's only so much i can do! ^_^

My auto-reply is still not automatically sent to the sender when I receive an email from the sender. What's happening? Because I use the auto-reply as a "quick reply", but it doesn't work!

Well I see that there haven't been any issues addressed since March 28, nor have my 2 posts here seen the light of day.

I detest the new message center filter myself. I don't like the pending file. I liked it showing in my active conversations. Maybe if they had a view all option it wouldn't be so bad.

Hi 2TeachMe1964,

We'll be adding a "View All" option back to the mc soon. Thank you for your feedback.

have you folks also changed the login process/internal procedures in the past week? It' been a bear to log in both on computer and even more so on phone.

Hi Sorcha,

The auto-reply behavior is more sensible now-- it would be sent after every single incoming message, regardless of whether you were engaged in an active conversation or not. Now, auto-reply messages are sent after the first message initiated by another member to you, then again after 2 weeks of a break in conversation. In addition to sending every two weeks (when there is a lapse in conversation), if the autoreply date is newer than 5 days, it will also be sent out.

.
NOT TRUE!! I have one person that in 4 days has received my auto reply like 3 times now. This is not more sensible. Also, I have sent out messages that are not showing AT ALL in my message center as having been sent. I know the recipient got them as they told me when they saw me in the chatroom. I still hate the new message center and probably always will. The email format rather than this was more sensible by far to me and most of us.

Hi I realize this thread is now dead, but I just had a query that I wanted to clear up. For the past few weeks, every message I get in my inbox is blurred out and it asks me to upgrade to view it.

Is the inbox now a completely paid feature? Will I not be able to read any of the messages if I'm not a gold member?

Some light on this would be greatly appreciated..

Hello,

For right now this how standard members will see their mail. Members have been asking the site management to reconsider this. It was done to cut down on the number of fake accounts/spammers.
