Current Issues and Notes From the Weekly Broadcast
Posted:Jan 28, 2010 4:23 pm
Last Updated:Feb 12, 2013 3:11 pm

If you haven't checked it out yet, I broadcast live on Wednesdays to discuss current issues and anything else related to in my group Live From AFF.

It was suggested I post my notes to this blog so a larger audience could be filled in on what we talked about. This week we talked about issues that have come up since our last monthly release on 1/21. Here's some updates:

1) Bug ITNL-1317 - New group topics and edits are not showing up on the Group homepage, you need to click "View Recent" to see them.

We pushed a fix to this to the site last night. There was a back up of about 4000 topics that needed to be reviewed, but posts should be slowly populating. Give it a day to get back to normal.

2) Advice Lines and Polls were stuck and not showing new posts since 1/21. This was related to the bug above (ITNL-1317) and was fixed late last night.

3) After the last release members were able to place their personal albums into groups they belonged to. Based on your feedback, we've rolled back this feature until two things are fixed:

* Moderators need to be able to delete the albums
* The album placement needs to be moved

4) There is a new IMC built from the ground up to address many bugs with the old one (friends online, pages, filters). Read and follow the conversation here for more info Here39s What Is New With IMC. We've fixed a few bugs already.

- (fixed) Sound was not on for broadcasters the first few days
- (fixed) People were showing up from California, not their correct location
- (not fixed) Filter settings will block friends from paging you if they don't match your filter

I'll try to get some feedback on a better Decline Page message. Something softer seems to be in order.

5) Trying to watch a broadcaster results in blackout screens for many of you. I'm seeing this too. You see "Buffering" in the bottom left, but it never connects. To the broadcaster it still looks like they are broadcasting fine. I need to work with our engineer to see what's happening.

6) There is a new mobile site for everyone who is accessing from their phone. This new mobile site was pushed to the iPhone as well.

7) My Profile in the top navigation bar will be coming back. 20% of you see it right now.

8 ) The notification bar is being tested with 5% of the members to make sure it works before releasing it to everyone.

9) Members in flash chat seem to have their sex displaying incorrectly.

10) Yes there is a big upgrade banner in the chat for standard members. I'll give your feedback on it. That's how we make money and I get to have a job - but I hear that it is annoying.

11) Yes, some of you are getting messages from members at GetItOn. This is good news for those of you who are members of both sites. It means you never have to leave to manage emails on GetItOn.

Back when we launched GetItOn, we gave away 3 free trial months to many members. Many of you decided you didn't want this and canceled you account on GetItOn. If you are getting emails, and you don't want to be a member of GetItOn, here's what you do.

- Log onto GetItOn with your username and password
- Go to "My Account" across the top of the page, click "Change Profile Availability" on the left hand side, then click "Permanently Delete My Entire Account"

12) Many of you have noted that bots and spammers have really hit our site heavy since 1/21. It seems like they may be exploiting some new weakness we haven't yet plugged. It the worst in Flirts for men and in chats like the Lobby. I'll have Mr. K (our head of abuse) look into it.

13) Yes, site support has not gotten to you questions on the blog in the past 5-ish days. Unlike me, they actually pick up the phone when you call. The calls and emails have simply been to heavy for them to keep up with the blog. They do apologize. I hope these posts have helped fill in the gaps.

OK, that's all I had written down. Hit me up in the comments if I missed something. Let's try to keep it positive, especially in relation to the GetItOn emails. I know that's a trigger for some of you, but I don't want to get crushed with ALL CAPS anymore this week.
Location in IM is fixed

Just a real quick note. You may have noticed your location in IM was probably somewhere in California for the last few days. This has been patched and fixed.
Here's What Is New With IMC
Posted:Jan 27, 2010 2:02 pm
Last Updated:Jan 28, 2010 5:22 pm

Included in our last release was a brand new IMC. We built a new IMC from the ground up to address a lot of the bugs in the last version, including our issues with pages not going through.

We had a bug right away that turned sound off for the broadcaster, but that has been fixed.

The new IMC looks almost identical to the last one, but here are the changes:

1) To make pages more noticeable, they come through with an audible ding. Been getting good feedback on this.
2) To reduce ambiguity on whether or not an IMC page is received by the intended recipient we introduced a new notification step in the paging process (has received your page, but not responded).
3) Less members are showing up as broadcasting on their profile page and webcam page after they have stopped broadcasting. A lot of the syncing has been addressed. This is great on paper, let me know what you are seeing.
4) Incoming pages are declined if the person doesn't match your saved search filter
5) Needs to be fixed: Filter settings will block friends from paging you if they don't match your filter
6) Ignore adds them to the blocked member list now too
7) Decline does a one-time decline to chat
Why Are Member Albums Showing Up In Groups?

Last Updated:May 3, 2012 6:08 pm
UPDATE 1/28: Fixed. We've rolled back this feature until two things are fixed:

1. Moderators need to be able to delete the albums
2. The album placement needs to be moved

Many people have noticed there are member albums popping up in the Group albums section. This is not a bug, but a setting within albums.

You can set this when you dive into the options of your albums. Here are the options for displaying your albums (see image):

- Open the the public or just friends
- Open only to your friends in groups you are a member of
- Open to all members of the groups you select
- Keep album hidden from everyone

What I'm hearing is that moderators of a group should be able to take down albums they don't want displayed. That makes sense to me. I'll put up a poll to get more specific about how we want to change this, or scrap it.
Yes, There is A Problem With Group Posts

UPDATE 1/27 at 5PM Pacific:

A fix was pushed to the site just now. You should see your posts in Groups now. I see some of the backlogged posts showing up, but not all. It may be a delay in getting them approved, not sure.

You've noticed, and I just wanted to confirm that Group posts are not posting right now.

It's bug #ITNL-1317 for those of you following along at home. We are working on it as a P1, which is the highest priority.

What's happening:
None of your group polls or posts are showing up after you submit them.

This happens with new Topic/Poll posts, or updates to old ones.

Why is this happening:

All group polls and posts get reviewed by customer service before they post. They are getting stuck in the customer service review queue. As of right now, I see about 3797 topics stuck in the queue.

What are we doing about it, and when will it be fixed:

As noted above, it's being worked on at our highest priority. I know the people working on it and I'll post when I get a better idea when a fix is ready. We are talking days not weeks.

My suggestion would be to hold of on posting or updating your posts until this is resolved. I would imagine the backlog will get posted once this is resolved, but just to be safe I'd hold off.
Yes, You Can Add 200 Photos To Your Profile Photos
Posted:Jan 15, 2010 5:54 am
Last Updated:Jun 2, 2010 4:54 pm

Have you noticed that many members started showing more than 20 photos in their profile photos? Yeah, you can do that now.

Here's how it works:

* Profile photos are automatically added to your Profile Photo Album
* Every Profile Album can have up to 200 photos
* You can have up to a maximum of 5000 photos in your albums (25 albums of 200 photos each)
* There's no limit to the amount of albums you can have. Well, technically the limit is 5000 albums with 1 photo each, but please don't do that

There is no limit by membership. Standard, Silver and Gold all have the same 200 photos per album/5000 total limit.

Community Challenge!

I want to know who the first person to 200 photos is. Actually, I'll give 6 free months Gold to the first person who adds 200 photos to their Profile album, then posts here about it. That's a reward-able task!

Update: japaneseass was the first to get 200 profile photos up. Congrats!

Most of the new features get met with a grumbling, "Fix what's broken first." Well folks, I present you with a fix to what's already broken. We have a new Instant Messenger for you test.

Our instant messenger was originally written in Flash. Because of the volume, we were constantly bumping up against the limits of Flash. So we've re-written the Instant Messenger Flash code so that it can handle the volume.

What's new?

- You shouldn't notice a huge difference in the interface. There's a little re-organization, but everything that was there before is still there.

- You should notice great improvements in stability, speed and receipt of incoming pages.

- We've added a nice little feature where where you can filter the online list by who has their webcam on.

I've tested it, what now?

- Give it a few days, play around - break it if you can. Then please leave your feedback below and Take_The_Survey.

- Note that this isn't available to everyone yet. It's only available to people who read this post and try it out. It won't be launched to the site until we get your feedback and make the needed changes.
