A not so happy day
A not so happy day I have a 17 year old that just does not understand he is not grown. He absolutely refuses to follow house rules. Thursday I had to give him a final warning that any continued violation of house rules or skipping out on chores and he would be moving out. Well today he just decided that going out with his friends was more important. We spent over an hour moving his things out. During this time we did discuss what it would take for him to move back in. He finally decided to come home at nearly midnight (Another rule violation). He didn't seem surprised to find he was moved out and said he would come back tomorrow for the rest of his stuff and left. Some days you're best off not even getting out of bed. |

Teenagers will push boundaries. Particularly boys, and some worse than others. Yield on this and all you're doing is extending the boundary further, creating more problems for yourselves in the long run. Basically it's a power thing, your son wants membership to the adult club and he's seeking empowerment ....... but is not sufficiently mature to fully realise that this is at the expense of disempowering you. Stay calm, cool and firm. And keep the boundary there. Good luck .... methinks it might be a bit of a bumpy ride, but hang in there! warm

I know raising kids...especially the teen years....are tough ones! I guess I don't completely understand just moving a teen out. It would scare me to death! I mean, where will they be? What will they be doing? And who might take advantage of them? (My kids were both girls too....so this seems scarier) I guess this is the "tough love" and I think it is as hard on you as him.....maybe even harder on you, right? Well, I'll be thinking of you sweetie....and I hope it all works out.

That's a sad story! I'm sure it was hard for you to actually pack up his stuff, but you had to put your foot down. I hope he comes to his senses soon...
