All day long going from one place to another. The day started as usual, morning work out of the way I was off to get the days marching orders from the boss. Two units in the same building that I had already prep cleaned, one for move in and one to show. Needed redone, as the guys had gone back into them to "touch up" and complete work that had gotten missed on their final punch list. Yeah more work for me in units that I had thought I was finished with. When your done with that he tells me to go into the basement of that same building and clean up a homeless camp. Over the past weekend he had to rout a guy out of there twice. ( it wasn't the first time the guy had taken shelter in that same building. The basement being warm and dry is, I suppose too much of a lure for the dude I suspect? Funny but there are shelters in the city, quite a few in fact where people like this fellow can go and get out of the weather, but these places all come with rules. One being no drinking while staying there. Our uninvited tenant is a drinker big time. My job in cleaning up his camp consisted with picking up empty beer cans, a lot of them. I don't mind doing that so much, it's picking up the beer cans that have been refilled after thy have been emptied that bugs the crap out of me. Half full cans and bottles ( one a two leader) of urine. Needless to say but the place smelled like an outhouse., and had to be bleached and hosed down after I'd picked up all of the "empties". What really ticks me off about all this is, for what the dude spent buying all that beer he could have easily used to get him self a motel room.

After finishing with cleaning out the "camp" I was sent off to pre clean a one bedroom unit, clean for the most part, but the tenant ( a woman who would be out on her back porch almost daily smoking a bowl or two ) left a bunch of crap behind, including all the furniture. All that crap had to be dragged to the dumpster ( by me ) and tossed. The big stuff is still in there, a couch and a recliner chair. Both in better condition then the stuff I have in my living room. What is it with people? How does someone just walk away like that? How can some one with a drinking problem like the homeless man that has the cash to make things better for themselves or can go to places where they can get help or shelter chose to not do it and live the way that he does. Flopping in basements urinating in empty beer cans. I just don't get it al all.

My Dad was fond of saying " There but for the grace of God, go I " In this season of peace on earth and good will to all we still tend to forget those members of our society that have for lack of a better phrase have fallen by the way side. Those that put their drinking or drug problems at the forefront of their life, and chose to fall by the way side rather than pick themselves up and live a better way. In a sense hey have given up, but that doesn't me we should give up on them.

I'm off to shower now.....

OKC has sooo many homeless people. We've talked to dozens and dozens. Most are homeless by choice. They choose the drugs, alcohol or fighting over shelter. It's sad. They have to decide to make better choices.
