Time Stood Still...
Time Stood Still... I bought a Big Red Car not long ago...a 1977 Chevy Impala. I'm telling ya, this thing is mint with only 56,325 original miles!! ...and the back seat is big enough I could do saddletrampsask and at the same time, no problem!! When I first got in and fired her up for a test drive, it was like I was 16 again. The long nose, the cloth bench seats, the AM radio with the cyclops speaker system (one speaker in the middle on top of the dash), the low rumble of the 350 V8 motor...it was like time stood still. Then I realized it was just because the clock on the dash didn't work... I had a really cool ride (the heater didn't work) until it died and forced me to quickly mourn and move on. I'll miss my early 90's model green mini-van... The Big Red Car doesn't have any cup holders, so I have to hold the cup of coffee while I drive and talk on my cell phone. I'm practicing evil dirty looks to throw at people who piss me off on the road...as giving them the finger now will likely be a significant hazard. It's been interesting getting used to the combination of 20 year old radial tires, rear wheel drive, 3500 lbs of car and our Canadian winters again...especially with the advent of drive through coffee and cell phones to keep my hands occupied. Do you like the Big Red Car? Would you let me do you in it?... What's your favorite car story? Have a great day friends...and keep an eye out for the Big Red Car...mostly because it is just safer for you that way... lustytaurus.LUSTYTAURUS FYI...in unrelated news, I learned why the Amish wear condoms on their ears. It's to prevent the spread of hearing aids. |

Drive to the nearest bar so we could get drunk and REALLY test drive it What's your favorite car story? I have vague memories of a redhead and the backseat of a powder-blue Beetle back in college - I don't think it worked out as planned.....

Ah, the days of muscle cars! A time well passed now. While I didn't have what was generally considered a muscle car, I had a Dodge at one time. It didn't have the biggest engine but it did have "four on the floor". Well, after a couple of months, the oil light came on and stayed on. Took it too the dealer and they told me it was just a short in the light and to forget it. So I did. For about a day! The engine froze up on me and I wasn't going anywhere! Got it towed into the dealer and he said that it was something to do with the oil system. DUH! Here's your sign! But, the warranty covered it and they had to rebuild the engine. It took getting a lot of parts and they gave it to the old mechanic back in the corner. He told me what it needed and that he'd take care of it. Well, he had that car for about 3 weeks before he called me that it was ready. And when I went to pick it up, he told me what he had to do to it. Seemed that when the oil system went out, the pistons swelled, as hot things do, and they'd scored the cylinder walls. He had to manually overbore that block and it was now about the size of their hottest engine at that time! WHOOEE!! Did that car ever come off the line! Blew away many a muscle car with its overbored block! I loved that car! Ran it for 10 years after that and never had to put a wrench on the heads again! That car finally died after I sold it to a guy who bought old cars and ran them in demolishion derbies. Remember the kind? Cars on a figure 8 track? Last man standing wins? That's how it died. It wasn't the last man standing...
