Any feedback on slight design change on blogs/groups?

As you might have noticed, we tweaked the design of the blog and group pages a bit. We also worked a bit on speeding them up as well - this process is ongoing. We've also doubled the number of databases<b> running </font></b>blogs and groups.

Our entire development team is currently working on site cleanup, bug fixes, and site speed. We will be pushing live these improvements during the next two weeks.

Yes, we are working solely on improving current features. I heard something today about chatroom issue - thought it was resolved. Will investigate tomorrow morning.

For dial up the member photo thumbnails next to Blogs and also group photos take time to download. Chat room message display is half the area in either the HTML or the Flash HTML (beta). Also, since the updates my points I had earned in my account has gone to 0.

Andrew replies on 6/8/2007 1:04 am:
Yes, putting more photos on a page does present a tradeoff for people on slower bandwidths. I just went to the chatroom and didn't see 1/2 the space (did I miss it?). I will have someone investigate the points issue tomorrow.

Another thing. There are now the symbols that represents male and female ( ♀♂ ) and on my profile it has the woman symbol and I happen to be a man and not a woman. I am sure that I am not the only man with the symbol of a woman on their profile.

Hopefully, we will get the network issue solved soon. Good catch on the photo links... they were supposed to go to the blog not the member. Will change. Perhaps will get the "show photos" toggle live.

Hi Andrew,

As much as I use blogs and groups, I have to say I have not noticed any meaningful improvement. I have noticed changes on profile pages that shifted things around - but no meaningful improvement there either.

I'm commenting on the topic, so my statements are sounding very negative. This blog entry isn't a list of the things I like, which are equally as many as the problems I list. I'd enjoy the aspects I like much more if things didn't exist which degrade my experience.

Improvements in my view are those that you mentioned, faster, fixing bugs (all of them), plus enhanced or better functionality that goes to the heart of why people join a social site (find people, chat with people and/or view on cam, and contact people - real and physical is contact, virtual email and IM handles are remote exchange not contact but can be used for eventual contact).

If anything the site is slower this week, more bugs in chat and less clean overall appearance.

The new icon is often wrong, female for men and vice versa. It is so confusing, I tried to find a trend to see if it was for their interests or something. I find no trend in that new bug on an unessential new feature.

As for cleaner, the drop downs are annoyingly popping up fast at times when they are not desired and won't go away. This annoying feature, while potentially could speed up navigation, is actually maximizing annoyance due to it's coding implementation. Answering pages, which show up in the "Incomming Pages" tab and on a banner across a person's cam, is now done with a delay so that one can be selected over the other. However, many people who send pages give up by the time they can be accepted and responded to ---- slightly better than before, but a new wrinkle was introduced that isn't intuitive.

I have noticed a trend toward too much space for banner, borders, text that is never read, and pop-up notices that all combine to mean things that are not conducive to faster, cleaner, better. Yet, it seems that part is growing worse.

"Enhancements" while being rolled to production are very disruptive - it seems that it isn't automated to reduce impact, and it seems to be done server by server, section of code by section of code, resulting in maximized impact.

With that, there have been interruptions and a week of membership was offered. I sent the msg to the support staff as the email said to do, and I have had no extension yet, to any of my profiles on the different sites. Plus, I have not gotten any feedback. Regarding feedback, I have never ever gotten feedback for anything. This lack of feedback included reporting a death threat to the abuse dept. The man was only told to behave better in the future, but I had no feedback me. Oddly people are suspended for entering their IM info (which is posted on their profile page) in IMs or emails, but a death threat (illegal on several accounts) is essentially rewarded through it's being ignored. So, I guess that means it's not worse, but when it's zero, it can't get worse.

I continually hear people ask for less bugs, better chat IM experience so that people are not "FORCED" to go to the M or Y! or A, client IMs. I continually hear people who want to find and msg and network, but even Gold members are given limits on networking (it seems to be about 45 or so per day). Yet, I cannot figure out how some members (maybe they are employees with test accounts) can network over over 10,000 people in a very short time.

In short, the customer experience is degraded by limits on the basics, bugs everywhere including on the most critical interests, disruptions in service (promises of more time not quickly taken care of), slowness while being billed as faster, poor customer support (even worse now when called than months ago), and critical screen real estate taken up by banners, borders, and messages that don't enhance customer experience.

Thanks for your interest in the blog, robust features, a good set of sites and interaction with your customers. I think you should have this blog on ALT, FF, Out.., and your other major sites.

Will

I am glad that you sorted the mods groups at the top of the groups list, it makes it easier, visually if you are a member of alot of groups or if you moderate more than 3 groups.

The chatrooms are slow, I was in there a little while ago and there was a lag went it went to refresh the body of chat page.

In the groups members list (the top 20 members), sometimes the member's post counts are not correct, and sometimes they are.

I dont mind the pics next to the blogs too much, it helps me to recognize people that I've seen or responded to before in blogs, although it is a little busy looking.

My photo used to show up in it's entirety.... now all I have is the area between my eyes showing up... and maybe a nostril, LOL! While slighty humorous... my eyes are one of my best features... and it would be nice to have them back!!!! (The new format must have altered how some pics show up? hmmm.....)

Your attention or suggestions will be appreciated

Andrew replies on 6/8/2007 10:44 pm:
Yes, we spent alot of time trying to come up a cropping method that did the best job for the most amount of people. If you want to just get your eyes, cut/paste your "eyes" onto a more square background then save that photo. Think of it like making your own "CD cover".

Tonight the chat rooms seem to be back to normal.

The site is running sluggish when changing pages though (both in dial up and broadband) even a little more sluggish than before.

My points issue was supposed to had been fixed several months back in order to balancing it out. I was showing more points spent then earned back then and now it is again showing the same. I had 9k earned points (majority earned from the contests) before this last update roll out and after it went live, my account reverted back to 0. Contacted CS by email and they apparently do not wish to resolve the issue. This is the second time I have email CS directly with no satisfactory results this year. One was for reporting members breaking TOU by promoting a competitor site to this one to members in groups (that was resolved by a PM that I contacted).

Anyhow, if I come across any more little things going on with site performance I will let you know.

Almost forgot this one.

When in the chat room clicking on the links above the navigational bar of Instant Messenger Sex Academy Magazine will not navigate out of the chat room (change page). The links are not broken; however, what is happening is that the page is actually opening up behind the chat room message board instead and is unseen to the members.

Andrew replies on 6/8/2007 10:48 pm:
yup - that is the thing that caused developer to make the chat room size smaller... either they fix the size of the chatroom or can get the links to work... they are still trying to see if can get both.

Shelly_Marie 51F

6/8/2007 9:59 pm

This has to do with the new thumbnail images next to groups. I uploaded a pic to my group's description last night and tonight when i navigate to my group's category, it shows that image as a broken link. Has the image not been approved yet?

Andrew replies on 6/8/2007 10:49 pm:
Hmmm... we did change some of the ways photos are made... will investigate!

Andrew replies on 6/8/2007 10:50 pm:
Which of your groups?

Shelly_Marie 51F

6/8/2007 11:18 pm

it was in Big Tit Lovers, when you view it under the 'breast fetish' category, the small thumbnail shows as a broken image.

and what I meant about the top 20 members in the group list, is that sometimes the numbers go down considerably and then back up to normal. I think it is correct right now, but periodically it gets messed up.

I have talked to several bloggers who don't like the new pictures on the main blog page. For myself, I would rather see the name of the most recent post by bloggers on my list rather than their picture.

I don't know where else to leave this, since your support blog shows hundreds of comments still pending ...

There is a rumor circulating through the blogs that you are planning on restricting standard members' ability to read emails. If you cut off my ability to email standard members, and I think you'll agree most women are standard, or further restrict their ability to reply, I think you'll see a mass exodus. I've been on sites that pull that kind of crap, and I no longer pay for them. Blogging is fun, but it's and adjunct, and not the reason I pay.

Hi,

Over the past 5 or 6 days the sites have degraded tremendously. It seems this could be related to installing new code or maybe while investigating the slowness. It went from fast to super slow to something less than fast during the past 5 or so days.

Since about 5pm Easter Time on Monday a number of changes are restricting email, chat, IMs, webcams, particularly to standard members in the US and Canada. I've gone from email msgs per hour to one or two per day. This is the type of thing that forces members to other email and IM services to exchange info. But a mega sized banner filling up acres of real estate on profile pages warns of punishment for exchanging such email and IM info. The limits and bugs is what requires people by web application induced force, to seek the other IM and email services.

Observed Cams in the past hour:
At this very moment, no std members, who are male, and not minorities (yep, that's how it stats out) in the continental US or Canada, who are under 30yo, are on any cams in ALT or AsianMatchMate.com.

I checked every one of the 99 male Alt members on cam, of all ages, and frankly, it appears that only those who don't list as "Caucasian" (maybe it's only illegal aliens who can get on) in the US and Canada are the only "standard" male members who can get on cam, with the lone exception of one 40yo man.

I checked all of the 222 AsianMatchMate.com male members from 18 to 31, and the same held true. On AsianMatchMate.com, there were 295 males on cam in the 31 to 39 age group, and while checking most but not all, I found only two men in the US who list as Caucasian and who are standard members. I figure there was some other aspect that allowed them in, such as not currently physically in the US or Canada.

Also, the day of last sign on is another obvious item that recently stopped working.

The pages have changed in design, but service degradation and restrictions are noticed by everyone, with many who said to me, "this is boring now".

Is this an implementation of new restrictions or is a combination of multiple new bugs?

Will

Hi,

To add to this observation, the one ALT male white guy on cam last night just told me he is outside the Continental US (also not in Canada).

Down to old paying men like myself, how exciting is that, NOT.

As for harasment, I have one "testimonial" written by an angry member, which is actually a veiled threat/insult and have receiced harassing mail from another member.
Despite a few phone calls and sevral emails to the "customer service" (oxymoron) department, nothing has been done to prohibit such behavior and protect members who are being hassled.
On one occasion, I got a snippy operator barely able to speak coherent english.
Other phone calls have gone ignored.
My emails remain unanswered.
What do you plan to do to protect security and make me your customers feel safe from harassment? I do not feel safe here.
I'll bet if I was a hot looking woman, this problem would've been resolved ASAP.
And, instead of telling me to write you and email, how about if you contact me here to show you're concernec about AsianMatchMate.com's onlinr security.

What The heck.
The reason I upgraded to a gold account was so that I could e-mail and make contact to whom I wanted. Recently, you took away the privileges
for standards to OPEN e-mails; even e-mails from paying members. Now I understand not letting Standards view profiles, see pics, send e-mails ect....you are a business.
But...... when I PAID for MY account standards could read my e-mails. That is why I up graded. I wanted the option to contact people.
Now I can not contact ALL members (or at least they can not necessary read it if I do). So you are taking away Services from me, a gold member. Services that were offered when I PAID for my account. Furthermore....not even notifying us to the change

So question.....I am paid through to September. I no longer see the point in being a paying member. My Pay member privileges are not what they were when I paid. Do I have the option of just finishing off the month and getting a return for the rest, losing my gold status?

I have to agree with wildhardfree. What's the point in paying. Site support blog says that "new" standard members will eventually be able to read the e-mail sent to them (after 2 months). E-mail for standard members is auto deleted after 30 days. So, the e-mail we send will never be read. Add to this, members have the option of hiding their membership dates, so we as paying members have no way of knowing how long a standard member has been on site. That of course leads to a waste of time previewing a profile, making a decision, and sending an e-mail that will be deleted by the time they can answer it. Also, I might add, we are very active in our local groups and host Meet and Greets. One method we use is to e-mail local members who may not be members of our groups. If "new" standard members can't open the e-mail we send, not only are they missing out on the fun and possibly meeting that one special person, you are missing out on the opportunity to build your community thru our hard work.

Other "Adult Dating Sites" cost half what you charge and even offer a lifetime membership for what you charge for a 1 year gold subscription. As well, most if not all services (with some limitations) are available to non paying members.

My suggestion is, if you want to increase profits, cut your rates in half and quite possibly you will triple the number of paying members. Quite honestly, from a Marketing point of view, taking away services, such as this e-mail scam, from paying members will only drive paying members away.

I would suggest you have your Customer Non Service people and your Site Non Support people thoroughly read customer comments, suggestions and feedback and respond appropriately. Enough with the canned remarks that just show us they don't really care what we think, this is only a job to them.

I would also suggest that you have them post the comments, suggestions and feedback without editing the content. Recently in discussing e-mailing personal information without having exchanged 2 e-mails, my comment concerning the fact that as gold members, You offer the option of inclusion of these 2 IM's to all members. This statement was edited out of my discussion. Perchance they didn't want people to know this.

As well, when I made comments about allowing bots in the chat rooms bringing in revenue, that comment was also edited out of the discussion.

I, unlike a lot of people, keep copies of everything I send or comment on. So, when I review my post, if it doesn't look like what I sent, i compare with what I saved. I do know when it's been edited. Comments, suggestions and feedback should be posted as written by the customer, even if distasteful to you or isn't true. In such a case, it should be addressed by your people in their responses. But that would mean cutting out the canned responses they so like to use.

just my 2 cents worth.

.........it sure would be nice if your webcam paging system and flash chat would work efficiently and reliably. This is a site to meet people on as well as explore and view.

Thus I find that albeit email doesn't always work (since women get large quantities you may not get a reply)..... when I webcam and they come to view and page me... this is a better way to connect and perhaps exchange information to connect. HOWEVER 75% of the time on both of my computers I have trouble opening a private chat room >> that is, I accept the page but no room opens up for us to chat in. I have written 4-5 times about this issue (over months) to customer service but received no meaningful reply or assistance, and noted little if any improvement.

There is no doubt more people would subsrcibe and/or become GOLD if this site was more reliable.

FURTHER, your flash chat is marginally operational!!! In fact from m experience more than 75% of the time the time I cannot private message someone in flash chat without it locking up. Moreover the speed is lacking thus I usually must return to regular chat to communicate and read posts.

Please improve !

Andrew,

We've been paying Gold members for over two years now (except a brief stint as silver). We appreciated the addition of the CS support blog, as well as the effort given to trying to correct bugs. While no site is ever perfect, it puzzles me how there always seems to be a push for AsianMatchMate.com to always introduce new, sometimes questionable features (Bling). It seems to us that it would be beneficial to have older features working well before introducing new codes and programming and endlessly mess up.

But, our main concern right now is the new trial of where Standard members can only read mail sent by a paying member if the paid member has purchased the "Standard Member Contact" feature. Pardon us for saying so, but it just seems like the site is getting greedier and greedier.

When We purchased our latest 6 months of gold membership, this was not part of the conditions. If you are going to change things on such a massive level, you owe it to every single member to announce these changes publicly, AND allow us to use our gold membership such as it was when we paid for it. As a group moderator, you have just severely reduced our ability to contact group members and do our job properly. And beyond that, it is an outrage that you think you can take away features from paying customers, in an attempt to coerce more money from them.

If you make it too hard for people to contact each other without paying through the nose, then believe me, there are other good sites out there that allow some form of contact without a paid membership. How greedy is too greedy ?

We will not be renewing our paying membership in August, enough is enough.

I'm sorry for contacting you this way, but Customer Support do not respond or it seems enjoy receiving negative feedback in the "Customer Feedback & Suggestions" Blog.

I (GoodSexyFun2000) have been a loyal paying member of 3 of your sites over the last couple of years, and have recently had my account blocked or deleted without explanation, with the only suppostition being that your CS people do not enjoy the fact that i have been public in complaining about some of the recent changes being implemented on the site.

I'm a businessman myself, and i know AsianMatchMate.com is a business, and i do not expect to use your service for free, but i do expect you to honour the services that i have paid for.

Why arent you working with your customers and why are you so intent on alienating them and banning them when they are only trying to improve the site.

I don't know if this is the right place for the real problem. I got the tip to have a try here only today.
1. Somewhere before May this year I started to have problems with paging from the IMC. People I know well were reportes as "not available" or "refusing" my pages. I checked with them and they all told me they never saw a page coming from me.
2. In the beginning of June, there was a long interruption of the AsianMatchMate.com-service. I got a message that paying members would be compensated (1 week free of charge). I reacted easily within the given time of 24 hours(?), but there was no change in my expiration date.
I wrote mails through the serve and billing department (front page/help/etc.), but never no answer.
Then I switched automatich payment to NO, to avoid being charged before I got the free week.
At the 18th of June, I was degraded to standard member. Now I mailed to the "regular" email address of the billing dpt. No answer, no reaction again whatsoever.
Yesterday I decided to buy another month of Silver - no possibility to get it fr the prolongation price, had to sign for the full charge.
3. Last night I was again confronted with the 99.9% impossibility to page network friends and others. It spoiled whatever fun you may expect on AsianMatchMate.com.
Now we have three questions:
A. What can I and the other member expect of the paging problem? It is really weird that a site like this doesn't fulfil it's basic task: communication between members!
B. Can I and others look forward to any form of compensation for factual damage and all the niusance we have had in finding out how come we cannot communicate?
C. What about the promised compensation for the disturbance in the behinning of June and the price-diffrence between prolongation at June 18 and a "new" subscription on July 2nd?

Please consider and treat this story as urgent!!!!

Robert

... I have a question Andrew...

... why isn't there a link back to the group after you have posted a new topic? ...

... when posting a new topic and after hitting the "post" button... the site takes you to a page that says "your posting has been submitted" ... but on that page there is no link back to the group you have just posted in....

... in order to get back to the group... you need to hit the groups link and wait for the page to load... or go back a page to find a link back to the group.

... seems like this should be a given since you are posting in the group anyway...
