Ready to test out the new Blog page?
Ready to test out the new Blog page? It's here, everybody. To view the page, amend blog/?celltype=trending_blogs to the site URL after logging in. For example... http://www.AsianMatchMate.com.com/blog/?celltype=trending_blogs Or if you're on Passion, http://www.Passion.com/blog/?celltype=trending_blogs So take a look, test out the links, and let us know what you think. |
||||
|
Looks great Aryana, and all the links seem to work well enough! Out of interest, is this to be the default main blog page, or will the 'classic' view be the default?
| |||
|
I like it....the links work....there is a good clean look about it and the layout is along the lines of the new homepage with links to everything on the left. Everyone should be able to see exactly what they want with this. Congratulations to the design team. How long before it is rolled out as standard? ~~Anais Nin~~
| |||
|
Is this the final finished look? When will it be rolled out? It's ok. I'm glad for the links to "My Watched Lists/Posts", etc... It'll take some getting used to and will change the "blogging experience". Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

This looks fantastic! Kudos to whomever designed this page to be so easy to navigate and see the listings (or layout) that you prefer. Your folks did a very good job on this.

Looking forward to the new blog. Looks good so far. Hugs kisses V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

I just tested out the new blogs main page with the link you provided Aryana. I like the look and layout of the new main page, however when i click on the links such as random posts, etc, all i get is the classic view? Links don't seem to be working for me? Also you said there would be a link to community blog on the new main page but i don't see one there? I see a link for site support but not for community blog? Will community blog link be put on the new main page?
| |||
|
There appears to be some mistake - I'm not top of the trending list Also, are the links supposed to work, even from sexfinder? They all took me to the same FriendFinder page - even though each had a different URL: /index.html?dcb=sexfinder.com?celltype=random_blogs or most_recent_posts, etc. The FriendFinder page was the blog homepage and listed recent posts, active blogs, most active recent posts and new blogs... but appears to be from 2005! In this alternate universe someone called Sweetnsassygurl was top blogger - so it wasn't all bad
| |||
|
As of right now, I believe this is going to be the default, until you choose 'Classic View'. The long-term plan is that whichever view you select will be remembered as your preference, but right now, we're going to default all users to the new look. We will never expire the 'Classic View', but that page will never be updated again. I think you've done an excellent job of modernising. Well done, and thanks.

I just went and checked Aryanas previous poll results on the rotating blogs list, and the poll results showed an overwhelming majority in favour of the change, votes result was something like... 174 people in favour of the change 15 people in favour of leaving it as it is, i.e. classic view 5 people don't really care either way. Here is the link to the blog....Rotating Active Blogs List Really can't argue with those figures on the poll Aryana did. I would also guess the majority of people who post on your blog will probably be bias in supporting your position Sandra. I did post on your blog to say i was in favour of the change however. Anyway it seems to me the powers that be who run the site have already made up their minds and this change is going to happen come what may? I have fought against site changes in the past such as the removal of profile background bling and to change new message centre back to the old one, and i have not been alone in those efforts but it seems futile, once site management have made up their minds we can all go whislte, and nothing we can say or do will change things.
| |||
|
I like it. 2022... it HAS be better, right?!
| |||
|
I love the change! All links worked for me. Thank you to you and the designers of the changes. I agree with one of the other posters that I was hoping My Watched Blogs would open to the whole list, but that isn't a major issue for me. I really like the clean, easy to use new look! I also like that this will be the new default, NOT the classic view! Thank you again. (sorry had to re-do my comment, I hit refresh after I posted and ended up posting multiple times, then I deleted too many, lol. Time for more coffee for me)

It ok to me which ever Style is to be use. As I don't see any changes with any of the features,other then a new feature added to it 'Trending Blog posts'. All the features button being organize in a listing to click to view would be easier for those newbie to blogs. ***I was wondering what is this Trending blog posts? How is some one blog post being show as Trending? Is this only for new blog post? *****
| |||
|
Is it possible to show more blogger on the 'Actively Watched Blogs'. Just to fill up the space on both end instead of 3?
| |||
|
This bug has been fixed now. Thanks for pointing this out! I also now see the link for community blog on there aswel.
| |||
|
Sorry Aryana I forgot to add.....Any chance you could give us a classic view option for the message centre?. I'd much prefer to use the old one.
| |||
|
This bug has been fixed now. Thanks for pointing this out! Am I "Top of the blogs, Ma! Top of the blogs!" yet?
| |||
|
If your link actually worked I'd try it out! Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| |||
|
Okay I got the link to work and I like the clean look of the page. What looks inappropriate and completely out of place is the Penthouse ad. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| |||
|
Because the trending list is designed to highlight quality blogs and doesn't just take into account the number of comments Really, who on earth would believe that the site is fixed against them and them alone?
| |||
|
Hi Sandra, your blog is very popular and always generates lots of comments. I think your blog will do very well under the new blog system, and most times i have tested the new blog main page and different lists your blog has been shown on most of the front pages within most of the links. As Aryana has explained the new blog system is designed to highlight a broad range of bloggers across the site, both popular blogs and also at the same time give lesser known blogs a chance to shine aswel.
| |||
|
There does always seem to be problems when ever new features are added to the site? Yesterday when i tried the new blog system most of the links were not working as they were all taking me to the classic view, however that now seems to be fixed. The new message centre has been here months now but is still full of bugs and glitches.......various members unable to read or reply to messages, scroll bar not working, sent messages not showing in the conversation history. It really is about time they sorted it out. Being able to email other members really is the most basic function for a site of this nature, and many members are getting increasingly fed up and frustrated with it.

The word "excluded" is the past participle of the verb "exclude" which means in most usage one of the following:- ".....to prevent someone or something from entering a place or taking part in an activity. .....to intentionally not include something." Are you seriously suggesting that this is deliberately happening to you and others? If you are.....I do hope that you have asked the site to investigate why and that you will let us know the results of your inquiry. ~~Anais Nin~~

Wow! This looks simple and good now!!! In the first option I didn't like the calculations as they were visible and easy to manipulate if wanted so. This list is still there: 'Active Blogs (by unique responses)' but at least it's not jumping on my nose unless I choose to check it out... but it might cause some trouble as some consider it gives them extra powers etc... which then might again lead to drama. Looking forward to the next steps! Only universal or also in Scotland Where to start my day or is it month Of course I39ll change I39ll do whatever you like Heatseeking missiles Squirter's life

Careful! I was just "excluded" for quoting her. Apparently it's called "long-term harassment" You are visiting the same post... Still wondering what that harassment is, did ask about that and about some other 'features', never got a reply. And it just doesn't fit my European mentality that discussion on a public forum is harassment - if quoting someone!!! In my world it's harassment if not able to justify that kind of claims. Sorry folkes, a bit out of order, haven't spoken a word of English for a week... But cool to see this site / Blogland is improving!!! Again...ditto... And...same as below...please spare me the banning! Pretty girls pleases?? Smooches little sweeties!

It is disappointing that they won't tell me what I did wrong, despite me asking repeatedly "so I won't do it again" I imagine that they take action and then review the situation, which is why the exclusion is so temporary because the accusations are groundless.

My suspension was lifted from my account within a few days but i really do think the site should explain to people why action has been taken against them and what terms of use they are deemed to have broken....if any?

I can think of one analogy to the rotating/multiple choice searches: Academy Awards and the Screen Actors Guild! There are "Best Of" categories for Comedy, Drama, Horror, Animation, etc. There are categories for scripts, acting, cinematography, etc. Finally there is Best XXX of the Year, be it movie, actor, supporting actor, writers. These are all voted on by members of the movie community. Additionally, and separately, there is the whole world of the movie critics. Have you noticed how many times, the movies that win "Best Of" titles, or what the critics deem "excellent", aren't always the highest money making movies? How boring would life be if the only movies we could see were the ones that won awards, or critics deemed worthy watching? I feel we as a community should be free to find what appeals to our own interests. Search tools that facilitate that are always a boon. Perhaps adding more search choices to aide in what blog types are displayed would help : Photo essays, (many categories: people, things, places, flowers)...political commentary, daily insights, advice posts, erotic writings, etc... just throwing out a few for starters. When someone writes and submits a post, maybe a little button for selecting the category they want that particular post to be highlighted under.

Aryana, The new layout with the trending blogs looks great! I like the new look and all the links to the left. What an improvement! Someone deserves a bonus or a raise or a flower on her desk! Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| |||
|
After reading Missingu2012's comments about a search feature, I was thinking it would be nice to be able to retrace the blogs I've viewed in a different manner other than hitting the back arrow. On the online shopping and retail sites they track what a person has recently viewed so you can easily find the item.Perhaps that is a possibility?? Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones

I agree about one post per blogger showing on the board. Surely the whole idea of the change was to showcase a wide variety of different blogs? It can't be good to let spam and speed bloggers take up multiple positions on the same board, that just does'nt seem fair?
| |||

Aryana, Using the new blog page I clicked on my watched blogs and the page appeared but not all of my watched blogs were listed. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones

this was taken on 6/22/13 12:39 PM. i see two bloggers have two post listed on this list. can you clarify about the rules? how often do you rotate this list? and do you limit the number of post from bloggers?
| |||
|
i can agree with you, Sandra, i wanna know how posts are selected for the trending post. as far as i can see, not much of the trending post list is changing...quite static to me...yes, i can see nothing older than two day period. but i have two bloggers, each has two posts listed on "trending post" list. so in short, 4 slots are taken by the two bloggers. this is exactly i didn't wanna see.

There's definitely something funny going on with the trending list then, because if I look at it every half hour or so it changes quite a bit. Maybe if you try opening the page a-fresh say one hour after the previous time you'll see quite a difference? Aryana, is there any reason that you might know of as to why some people like McJA seem to see a fairly static list, yet others like me seem to see it as dynamic? Good word that, 'dynamic', I need to use it more often!
| |||
|
i also like the idea of "like button"... since it's reader based approach, it is fair to all the bloggers, either to the bloggers who write lengthy posts, or to the photo bloggers... but again, i know some people on here would scream, "it's like popularity contest"... well, either way, i don't really care what approach is used, i just want a fair system to all of us. that's all.

Aryana, is there any reason that you might know of as to why some people like McJA seem to see a fairly static list, yet others like me seem to see it as dynamic? Good word that, 'dynamic', I need to use it more often! well, just for curiosity, i compared the screen shot that i took today. one was taken around noon, and the other was taken at 6 pm (eastern time zone). during this 6 hour period, i have 11 of 20 posts are the same. which is, at 6 pm this afternoon, 9 posts dropped from the noon list, and new 9 posts are added. in short, after 6 hours, more than half of the posts stays on that list. and once you made the list, it will stay up there for two days period? so here you go, here is the fact, i don't know if this is considered to be dynamic. but all i want to say is that, there are whole lot more bloggers in this blog section. if the site is doing this to bring a lot more exposure to other bloggers, chances are the light will never shine on them either. i am just saying. my suggestion would be that, they might need to rotate lot faster than that?? i know it should not be as fast as "recently post" but maybe totally change every 6 hours??? and stay there for a day???
| |||
|
The 'LIKE' option is something I love in FB (and more or less the only option I'd like to bring here...) ! It shows you've read the post, agree and like it, yet no need to comment. Here the option is either something irrelevant like I love your ass / I'd like to chat with you or then nothing. Only universal or also in Scotland Where to start my day or is it month Of course I39ll change I39ll do whatever you like Heatseeking missiles Squirter's life

i just compared to two list on my screen, this is about midnight, 6/23, and previous screen shot, 6/22 6 pm. again, out of 20, 11 posts are static, and 9 are dropped, and replaced by 9 new posts. i just want each and every bloggers to think, if this is the way we want. remember, more than half of the list is static. in my opinion, 20 posts is not really enough to showcase the entire bloggers, so how can we achieve this goal??? and most importantly, this is the opportunity to expose more bloggers that go normally unnoticed. again, there is a blogger with two posts on this one, too.

Thank you for your information, and i just went to read your blog post, [post 3179154], and basically i just wanted to share what i said with every one here. i think it's relevant. re: length of post and number of commenters. Is this the fairest way to go? i am thinking that myself also. ok, i am not gonna use the word "quality" but, so in the end, they are "valuing" lengthy post more than short one. to me, that is not fair at all. the most important thing is that this new system is to bring a light on the less noticeable bloggers... so why don't they just use the random system, just like the current "actively watched" section...of course current version shows only three bloggers but hey, if we can put 20 different bloggers up there, that would be very random and also changes every time, refresh the page. (trending list is two day decay) actually i suggested to the site about this elaborated version of "actively watched" list, when we had a blog war with a lady in the blue dress. but of course, nothing has done back then. it's hard for me to say, what values more in blog. just like in music or movie, or even in an art, we have different styles. and that's the beauty of it. all are different and and unique. the same thing applies to the blog. we have different blog styles, some might like lengthy erotica , or just diary style, or like me, i like just photo blog. so who is the one to say, which style is more important to the other bloggers, for that reason, we have watched blog list. (again, i am staying away from word, quality.) and can they limit the number of post from a blogger on the list??? the seat are limited to 20...if they hog up the two space, wouldn't you care??? heck recently i had seen 4 slots are taken by two bloggers. that's 4 out of 20. that's 20 percent, dedicated to two bloggers. is that considered to be fair? i am all for the change, if changes are done into the right direction. we are doing this, to avoid the future blog wars, and i surely ain't gonna go though another change in the future or stuck in something i am not happy with it. sorry if i offended someone here or, if you think i am highjacking your post. i just wanted to express my opinion.

I've been looking at the new format a few times a day since we got the beta link and still like it very much. I'm curious though, for people who are critical of it, what other websites have a front page that you *do* like. Maybe that will yield some ideas that we've missed?

Hi japaneseass, There's been a long conversation about this topic here the past few weeks, so there is a lot of insight from lots of members throughout the past few posts. I'd suggest you skim them if and when you have a chance, but I will brief you as to why the list behaves as it currently does: The problem many bloggers brought to our attention is that the blog page has a self-perpetuating leaderboard. It has certain benefits, because those blogs are active and engage lots of users, but it is highly unlikely for any other blogger to appear on that list if they are not blogging 24 hours a day and getting 100+ comments per post. This isn't the best design to showcase the variety of activity around the community here, but it doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a place to showcase the activity the community exhibits. Initially, many people shared that they felt a completely random option would be best to diminish the blog wars. Of course this is important to us as a company, because we want our users to engage positively with one another in a positive environment. Negativity in any way is not good for you as a user or good for us as a company. However, only showing a completely random assortment of blogs on the blog main page deprives new and active users from access to hubs of real-time activity and conversation within the community. The page we've designed includes all the columns you find on the current blog page, as well as the 'Trending Blog Posts' and 'Random Blog Posts' column. We are trying to strike a balance that does try to meet fairness (the main reason that we kept the 'Random Blog Posts' option). Trending posts are not 'selected' by us. We've created an algorithm, and every post that is submitted is scored independently of the other. jonthomas' response below does a good job explaining how posts are measured. It's not an exact science, but we're looking at a formula to showcase where conversations are happening, what content is drawing attention and engagement. We are currently adding another metric that would include a larger sampling of blog posts, rather than the text-heavy posts that appear right now. Keep in mind that we can't show everyone on any one column. That's why we've provided options. Random for those who want random, Active for those who want to see more of what they're used to, Trending for users to see what posts are getting a lot of engagement, and 'Classic View' for those who want their blog page to remain as it is now. There's also the 'View Most Watched Blogs' list that you mention. Trending posts don't appear on the column after 2 days. We felt this was a good amount of time to highlight good content, and allow users who don't log in every single day to get a glimpse of where hot spots of activity were while they were not logged in. This doesn't mean that the list you're looking at moves every second. It's movement is triggered by member activity -- not some metric we assign to it. When you guys talk and respond, in any blog post, that list changes. Maybe 9 dropped off in 6 or 8 hours. That's a very different system than what everyone has been dealing with. In another 6 hours, 9 more could drop off -- and in another 6 hours... We really hope that these changes to the blog page will address the long standing concerns of the blog community. We are soon going to be including blog activity within every user's activity feed, so the trending column does a good job for giving access to newbies to where users are talking in real-time. Time will tell if we've struck a good balance, but we too hope that these steps take us in the right direction. Thank you so much for your fast reply. I am all for this new blog movement, and over all, you have done a good job in designing. It's simple, and I especially love the links on the left column, since it's easy to get to the different blog list. Like you have mentioned in your reply, if you can add another metric that would include a larger sampling of blog posts, I will appreciate. Again, thank you so much... japaneseass

Aryana, can you please clarify if a member is allowed to have multiple blog posts on the same board? Many times i've looked at the trending blogs page and some members blogs are taking up multiple positions on the same board. This really does'nt seem fair and i was under the impression that this was'nt allowed to happen? I think you did say in a previous post somewhere that speed bloggers would'nt be able to "game" the system, and show up more than once on the same page? If members are posting several blogs per day, then only the most popular or the one with the most feedback should show on the board. In the interest of fairness please lets have one blog post per blogger showing on the board.

Have you any idea how soon the new metric will be included in the test lists? ~~Anais Nin~~

I seem to have lost the second page of my watched blogs (there used to be a "next" button to get to the second page overflow, but not any more). Also, chiming in to agree with adding a 'Like' button. That would be great. Sometimes I just don't have a pithy comment in me, but would like to let the blogger know that I liked their post.
