The Blogs They Are a-Changin'
The Blogs They Are a-Changin' The Blog mainpage, that is. But first, we need your input! When we brought up the possibility of a rotating active bloggers list and posted a poll, there was an overwhelming amount of support for this proposed change. In our Rotating Active Blogs List thread, there were lots of great ideas of how to address this particular issue and highlight the lesser known bloggers and their work. This is a tough one to tackle, because we want to expose great content, but allow everyone a level-playing field for garnering a wider audience. Every online platform for content currently has an area that displays a list of what posts/videos/pictures are currently trending or popular-- and these sections are constantly updated. Our blog main page highlighted users with the most comments only, but never allowed their popularity to decay, causing a static leaderboard that alienated other bloggers with an audience. After listening to your feedback, this is what we've decided would be most beneficial for all bloggers in this community, providing them a fair opportunity to build an audience and spotlight their work: Keep in mind this is still in the design process, but this is a general mockup of where we are headed: The blog mainpage will become two large columns: 1 for What's Hot/Trending Now and 2 What's New. Follow this link >>> http://AsianMatchMate.com.com/blog_test <<< [REMOVE THE SPACE AFTER 'ADULT' or ADDITIONAL .COM] to our Blog Sorting Experiment test to see six different sorting options for the What's Hot column. This list will update regularly; nothing will remain static. Newly submitted posts will rank higher than older, so older posts will decay over time. What we believe is necessary is leveling out the playing field-- still allowing well-known bloggers to shine, while uncovering and exposing the hidden gems in the blogosphere. Take a look at the different sorting options, and let's start a discussion about which you all feel has the best capability of exposing a variety of bloggers-- while uncovering quality content that you want to see at the same time. |

It's not. There's a space after the word "adult". Take that out and you can see the page. Just getting my first look. Kind of a crude view, but it shows the "ranking" possibilities. Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

The link isn't working....but paste it anyway in a new tab...then manually delete the space and it will work. So we are to choose one of the six options??? I'll be back when I've thought about whether it's possible to manipulate any of them lol!!!!! Initial thoughts are:- 1. That it is always possible to boost the number of commenters by the use of fake profiles. 2. You may encourage speed blogging to stay on the list. 3. I rather like the option 2...length of post and length of comments because that shows that the post has generated enough interest to spark some interaction. But that is just my initial reaction. ~~Anais Nin~~

As I log in through Passion, the com is twice in the link: >>> http://AsianMatchMate.com.com <<< When removing it, I see something. But why 'length of posts and/or comments', that makes no sense!!! Length is no kind of criteria of a good post etc! Must say, quite confused after seeing what I saw Only universal or also in Scotland Where to start my day or is it month Of course I39ll change I39ll do whatever you like Heatseeking missiles Squirter's life

"Quality" blogs need no encouragement from a ranking position in a popularity contest.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
My personal problem with this is that I really believe there is value in 'popular' content. If it's drawing eyes and generating activity, there's a place for it to be visible-- but anyone, regardless of how many comments they receive, should have the ability to have a post become a trending post. This is in line with every major content driven site on the web right now. The important question right now is do you guys find that there is quality in these posts. This is merely a rough draft. But ignoring my personal preference, do you really mean that any post will become a trending post regardless of the comments it has (or has not) received? That sounds unfortunately similar to the rubbish "What's Hot" feature, where I'm presented with photos that nobody thinks are hot but are relatively recent. What happened to the randomized list of active blogs that you yourself put forward in the previous post - you know, the one that everyone wanted? Why are you trying now to give us something that nobody asked for, is more complicated and is less desirable? ARF is not listening...
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
We've also have a purely random column of posts with 0 comments. This could be put side to side with What's Trending and What's New. After a lot of discussion, we believe that surfacing quality and highlighting activity is valuable for users, especially to draw more members to the blogging community. It's not about mimicing any other site, but about giving visibility to good content. Not any post WILL become a trending post, but CAN become trending because it can garner as much visibility as someone who is ranked highly on the blogs. And why do you still refer to "someone who is ranked highly on the blogs"? Isn't this doing away with the ranking? Wasn't that the whole point?
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
I couldn't care less about all this popularity crap. If you want to make some head way and improve blog usage ... insitute a blocking feature that will remove the "blockee" from the view of the "blocker" on all blog pages. That's real change. AB No Bozos

This could be the very solution everyone is looking for. Those who already have "watchers"...will not lose those "watchers"...the only difference is that the picture and blog name will not show up on a list. You still have all your "peeps"...I still have my "peeps"...everyone here will still have the same "peeps"...right? So...I guess my question is...what's the big deal? That your picture isn't on a list? Why should that matter if you still have the same number of watchers? They will still read and respond just the same as always...you won't lose anyone...and still have the opportunity to link up to other bloggers through your own watchers! Sounds like a plan to me! Keep up the good work! Smooches!

Do I understand these designations correctly? length of post means # of characters in the post length of comments means # of characters in all of the comments If that’s not correct, could you clarify what they do mean? Thanks

Did you view the different options in the link? What are your thoughts about the posts you see? "Management" seems hell-bent on a ranking scheme despite the overwhelming preference for a random selection (which would also highlight activity). You must realize that this course will do nothing to reduce blog drama. The "competition bloggers" must be very relieved. You had an opportunity to change things for the better, to provide users with something they actually wanted. That opportunity has been wasted.

Yes, you've got it right. I think you get that this is essentially to weed out, for example, a post where comments may be, "i want u" or "hot tits" over and over in response to a hot picture. How would pictures then be counted? I mean length-wise??? Or replies with 'quote' function, both signatures on, with blings, some formating, or, when showing commentor's profile pics, and so on???? Some of those replies seem to take half a page... but the real comment is only a couple of lines. But in general, the basic idea that the post or comment length would have something to do with 'quality' is pretty absurd... Often length is just a sign that the person is not able to write clearly, KISS is a good rule (= keep it simple and stupid/short). Just to clarify: I myself am not looking for comments like 'hot tits' even if posting boob pics, they are mainly just a side line. But it's a reality that this is an adult site, sex site with cam options and so on, why do you try to weed out 'your basic function' in Blogland!!??!!! There are men who have come here for the sex, the blogger can always delete those comments or block the person herself if finding them less desired.. Only universal or also in Scotland Where to start my day or is it month Of course I39ll change I39ll do whatever you like Heatseeking missiles Squirter's life

I think I've wasted more than enough time on this. Was totally confused when saw the options, was quite active in the discussion in the earlier post and now then seeing things that were not part of the discussion, more the opposite. I don't want any score for my own blog nor won't check the score of the post I'm reading. Mathematics cannot explain or evaluate writings... math is having no sense of humour, no sex, no erotic value. Let's keep calculators totally out of the Blogland. I presume the management is mainly of economic and commercial background etc, anybody taken any linquistic, human, social etc studies??? Anybody an active member on this site???? Or even checking the site occasionally??? Or just hiding behind the balance sheets... Pretty disappointed at the propositions. It's not about mimicing any other site, but about giving visibility to good content. Not any post WILL become a trending post, but CAN become trending because it can garner as much visibility as someone who is ranked highly on the blogs. The kid in school who sits and looks over the shoulder at his classmates work then copies it down as his own will never get anywhere in life. The site should take a lesson from this. I'd like to see AsianMatchMate.com come up with its own original ideas for things and as other members have said, the site should STOP trying to mimic others such as facebook, twitter, etc. Also why does "management" always continue to go against what members here want for the site time and time again? If they are interested in making profit don't they realise that they should try to keep members happy, not annoy and alienate them? The strength of feeling from a large section of the membership base spoke loudly and clearly that they wanted to keep profile background bling before it was removed, but "management" chose to ignore these members wishes and removed it from the site anyway. It seems to me the way this blog debate is going we are going to end up with the same result as profile background bling. Members wishes were clearly stated in your previous blog about the rotating blogs subject and "management" now going ahead and doing what ever the hell they want to do, and to hell what the members here think or want. Why do we even bother to give feedback about such things if our feedback is for the most part ignored?

I'm a social scientist; this is what I do so I'm finding this whole process (and the surrounding dialogue) fascinating. First, I don't know that I would have chosen some of these options but I'm going to work with what we've been given. I think it bears saying that no option will make everyone happy, there will always be a fistful of users who will complain that one method or another of populating a list is unfair and/or subject to manipulation Duh, of course it is. (There is no such thing as a perfectly fair, foolproof and tamper proof system. Any of these option could be manipulated if someone was hell bent to be at the top of the heat. of course these are probably people who need to go out and do some volunteer work but that's another tale) These lists, whether on this site, Yahoo's portal, Wikipedia's main page or any interactive site are a marketing tool that encourages a user to click deeper into the site and stay a while longer. That deeper engagement with the site will (you hope) make the user feel a deeper connection. Out of all of these I think #3, Length of post and number of commenters, is the best for this site and this site and this is why. The length of the post says that regardless of the content, it's going to be more than a closeup of genetalia and the sentence, "would you eat/kiss/lick/suck/touch/ this?" There's nothing wrong with that but if even for someone just looking for a wank, a little bit of content if better than 10 thin, repetitive posts. If people think a bunch of other people are commenting, it's going to hold their attention they are more likely to stay longer. My second place would be #4, Length of post and number of comments, for similar reasons. I prefer #3 because it shows the unique profiles that have interacted with a given post(and notice I said profiles and not people since people may have multiple profiles) while #4 shows the unique comments. It's more interesting to me as a reader if I see 10 different points of view as opposed to 2 people making 5 comments each on the same post. I'm interested to see how this plays out over the next few months.

It didn't work for me either Aryana Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

Aryana, thankyou to you and your colleagues for your ongoing efforts to improve our lot here. It's quite clear that you are trying to balance the need for a more hospitable blogging environment with the need for it to be commercially appealing and viable, no easy task. It is however disappointing to me at least that a ranking system will be the centre piece of the new front page, but I think the relatively short shelf life of the posts on that list could perhaps mitigate my concerns in that regard. Let's see......... Of the options you present, I think perhaps a combination involving the length of comments coupled with the number of commenters might be reasonably representative measures of what is trending, but while I appreciate that you think you have an answer to the potential gaming of these markers, I nevertheless fear that the same faces will show up over and over if these are the only markers. And on that basis I wondered if you thought it would be possible to introduce a further marker which might be based on the ratio of numbers of comments to the number of views which would perhaps be triggered when the total number of comments reaches a predetermined threshold? Surely the higher the ratio the more interactive that blog post is, and as such would that not qualify it as a trending post? (This assumes that responses to comments are included in the comments count as are quotes to comments - I think they are at present, though not 100% sure?) Any other views on this last suggestion would be welcome, it has only just occurred to me, so I'm quite happy to discuss potential pitfalls with it if others think it's a daft suggestion.

The word 'trending' no longer means popular in the online space. A trending topic is the theme, focus, or subject matter of current, real-time conversations on blogs and on social bookmarking sites. Trending topics are constantly changing -- and they don't always come from the most watched bloggers. The problem you guys presented to us was that there exists a leaderboard on the mainpage that by design, is self-perpetuating. Bloggers with the most comments gain the most visibility, with their commenters/watchers growing exponentially. The solution to this is not cut-and-dry. When posed with this question, we have to look at what solution best eliminates, to the highest degree possible, the 'blog wars' created by this, but also benefits the entire community on the site as a whole in the long-term. We're eventually going to be highlighting Blog and Group activity into the newsfeed, which will draw a larger audience to this section of the site. With more attention drawn to the blogs, we want unfamiliar members to have access to the most engaging content available to them. This is not a matter of who is popular -- in fact, it is quite the opposite. The different lists you see take into consideration different measures of what at that moment, in real-time, users want to know more about. Our goal is to be the source that provides information that people are looking for, without drawing eyes to the same 20 bloggers exponentially. If your biggest concern is our measures for what's trending can be gamed, you are focused on the wrong thing. We've already considered the gaming possibilities you guys have brought up here and have methods to counter-act them, which obviously cannot be shared. We believe this is a starting point for a new page that aims to engage a wider range of members by taking the focus off individual author's notoriety and placing more emphasis on good content, regardless of who that content comes from. A list of random blogs may prevent a group of bloggers right now from fighting over their rank, but it won't benefit the future of this community in the long run. With a constantly changing list of quality posts -- that will never be the same-- all members can access good content from a wide variety of bloggers at all times. This encourages more participation in a more dynamic environment, driven by quality posts, not popular bloggers. I think this is a fair assessment of the situation, takes heed of valid feedback presented, and is realistic. I firmly believe we need some sort of sorting system other than completely random, we can already do random by going through the 'Most Recent Posts' list, the resource is already available and is to stay as I understand it, also staying is 'Newly Created Blogs' (unless something has changed that I'm not aware of ? ) If ya want completely random pick a page and stick a pin in ! The much faster decay time and consequent change in position on the various options appears to be working, ie it changes, when coupled with randomisation from the pool on system refresh too this should be sufficient to provide a dynamic rather than static resource and achieve the main objectives here. Gaming is been considered.. great ! And good news that blog activity will be included in news feed at some point. My concern is this... I can think of ways that each of the six options would favour a certain style of blog. My suggestion is this... If technically viable, include as many of the factors as possible in the calculation, then average it out. So what I am asking is if we can have a calculation which takes into account ranking for Length of Post, Length of Comments, Number of Commenters, Number of Comments - which is then averaged out (as in the 'Summary' on the Blog Test page). This would take into account the maximum number of factors and would therefore be less prone to favouring any particular style of post/blogger. The complexity of the calculation and the fact that more factors come into play would be both fairer to a wider cross-section of styles, and intrinsically more difficult to game by people tailoring their blogs to suit the system. Could be that this is too complex to install and why we are presented with the six less complex options. But in general I think we're heading in the right direction ! Of course some folks will have a moan whatever is done, despite the fact we are getting a change that so many have wanted for so long... and despite the fact that, on this occasion at least, the site has 'listened'. I think some people come here just to moan

QUALITY So the Management now seriously want QUALITY in Blogland??? Why should Blogland be different from the rest of the site???!!! If some love twat pics and comment with 3 words, why wouldn't that be acceptable if all kinds of asshole pics with baseball bats are accepted! The money from those members is accepted without questions. And some even need to blog to keep their balls... you get what you asked for. I have already a while back suggested to the Management to create a classy sex site as that doesn't exist. Now would be again time to think about it... As King of the Blogs (TM) (well, someone told me I was top of the trending lists earlier today) I'd like to say that I still don't like the "trending" idea. Though I'd like to reassure the top bloggers that I didn't have to "speed blog" or "comment whore" or even ask people to rate my naughty bits to get there And I have to say I didn't find being King of the Blogs to be too stressful - not once did I feel the need to threaten anyone with the ToU
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Wonder who was talking about bullying and Tou? And who now is accusing some others of SPAMMING if more posts than someone else? That doesn't sounds too nice. No rules have been broken, seems to me, nothing against ToU. At least when it comes to so called 'speed blogging'; of bullying don't know as haven't seen much more than this scamming accusation now here, I am one those who have no access to your blog (if that bullying and so on is there). If someone is slow, why should those who think, reply, type, take photos etc faster suffer?! A creative writer can generate a lot of thoughts with limited words. Also fast. And often. It's not excluding friendship and discussion, btw... What if someone posts at the same speed and length, are they then copycats??? We are individuals here, following our own natural way. Let it be so. No need to compare what the others do, just act naturally. This is not about competition, in any way. Focus should be on our own blog. Are some comments then less valuable? And when given by the same member in another post, more valuable? Wonder what some readers think about that... The MOST members is a BIT big expression as even the top blogger is having less than 500 comments per month out of almost 600.000 blogs... let's at least TRY to keep the feet on the ground. And note the time difference. People blog during (about) Asian, European or US day. By the time America is active, some early blogs have already disappeared from the blog main page. Less coverage, less later comments, just one option. And this coverage is something everybody should get, independend on the place and time. Let's stick to the subject. Quality, speed etc are not part of it. Nor accusing others of dirty tricks if nothing against ToU. Very harsh accusations. And totally unnecessary. Blogging should be FUN to the blogger, not a stress! Nobody will get Nobel prize from these blogs... These are JUST BLOGS ON A SEX SITE, nothing more. Not the whole life. Why cant we have a list of topics people can chose from on what they want to read about? When we post we can put it in a topic we want it in. The reader can look through topics and find a topic they like. Then view all the posts in that topic that people have made for that week. Also let them chose if they want to read from a female blogger, couple, male, T or whatever Then have a list for each of posts made for that week by those categories. Theres better ways than just going by who has the most watchers and commenters or length. It is there, just not used too much... that's why I took it up in the earlier Community blog. The list just should be updated... Only universal or also in Scotland Where to start my day or is it month Of course I39ll change I39ll do whatever you like Heatseeking missiles Squirter's life

Please stay on topic. This is about the new blog main page - I was merely trying to provide reassurance that any blogger, regardless of how many watchers they have, or how prolific they might be, or how many photos they do or do not post, can get to the top of the proposed lists. You expressed a concern that your quality, but infrequent, posts would not be rewarded. It would appear that even with the new system they might be My posts and comments are not, and have never been, created to criticize or harass members who post photos (sexy or not...), and I reject that libelous suggestion. I have blocked NO members from my blog

Here we go again !! No chance of sticking to the point for more than a couple of pages or so then Tell ya what, if y'all want to have a proper argument I'll open up my blog and we can do it there, everybody welcome, nobody banned, so we can have a right ol' tear up and you sling shit to your hearts content... then perhaps this post could be kept to discussion about the issues rather than individuals bickering ? Only worthwhile if the main protagonists are going to show up of course... so let me know eh ?!

For the record I didn't "tell" you or anyone else - it was a polite request. Sorry you felt you had to defend yourself. See, two can play that childish "I never actually said it" game, though I'd prefer not to as it is rather unseemly and doesn't fool anyone But to get back to the subject of this post, and your concerns, I pointed out that even an infrequent blogger like me can get to the top of the list, even if only for a short time. So yes, you are wrong in thinking that people who only post once or twice a week will have far less visibility. Though as Aryana has been at pains to point out, the aim is not to give visibility to bloggers, but to content. The emphasis is on quality of posts, not popularity (or even visibility) of individuals. However, why would anyone be discouraged from producing a quality post even if the new rules did reduce the visibility of that post? You say that the system will discourage quality blogs but you haven't said how or why it would discourage them. There are many bloggers who have little visibility but who consistently produce posts of a very high quality - these people aren't discouraged by their lack of fame, why would that change with the new system?

Well now you're talking It is true I never seem to understand what you say! But reporting and banning are not my line of business, I have no need for that. No, no, no! Haven't you been reading? This system will discourage quality blogs! The site has intentionally come up with a mechanism to deprive the blogs of quality content! If the top blogger is no longer top then it must follow that a non-top-blogger is, and by definition a non-top-blogger has to be inferior - reducing the overall quality of blog content. It is... inevitable...

I am by no one's definition a voice of reason but I just read the comments of Sandra, Spirit, JonThomas, InterestedParty, OldgreyMatter, etc and just laughed till I got a belly ache. Sandra, you are hugely popular and beloved by many but you have little substance and your responses often contradict your position. Define what is a "quality blog". that will be interesting. Jon, you only show up on posts that create "drama" - why should anyone take you seriously? Spirit, calm down - you are no better than anyone else. You have incited riot and offered little reason. Old Grey - you are just incomprehensible not to mention gross, trashy and foolish, while trying to incite to riot. InterestedParty - same comment. sometimes very funny but many times just fanning the fire of unrest and hate. The lindo guy in the kilt - same comment. The motorcycle Koffla, same comment RedNeck Grl - yuck just yuck. Why does Sandra think you are a "quality blogger"? and most of all that Chuck/Atomic, you are the worst of the worst in trying to incite blog war. Why? Why Leave each other alone - Mind your business and let the company do with the site as it thinks best. Banned from all I am sure.

The question of quality: I would like that to be left out. One reason being: Communication is the key in human relationships. Blogs allow people to speak and express themselves. Learn better how to do it and what to avoid perhaps. Even a bit more than usually tends to be better, but people should not be compared to the others who are more skilled in writing. I'd like to give new bloggers and unexperienced writers time! Then thought about one option: What will happen to Magazine??? Magazine and Blogland seem often like the same thing with different name... As Magazine sounds more powerful, perhaps the 'quality' blogs could move over there... I too see blog bullies...right here on this page. All that is wanted is a blog page where it features more than the "same old same old". There is no reason for the "postured outrage" that is being demonstrated here. There will always be that ONE person who hates everything that doesn't go their way. I find the way that said ONE is really ragging on any other blog that isn't their own. I find that very unappealing. How can that ONE blog be the only quality blog here? We are all interested in many different things...who am I to say what is "good blogging"...and who is anyone else to say that? I just don't understand the hostility towards doing something that is fresh and new. I'm ready for someone to lay in the floor and start kicking and beating their fists...holding their breath til they get their way...like a two year old. I thought this was an adult site. I say give the new stuff a chance... Thanks.

I said I'd be back when I had looked in to it and here I am. Since first reading this post I have had the link open in a separate tab while I have been on the site. I have checked it every hour or so.....refreshing each time and I like it. I have seen bloggers of every gender category there at one time or another....while I do admit that there are more female bloggers showing regularly it is not just they who have appeared. In any case female bloggers do attract more attention...even old ones lol!!! I have seen bloggers I have never come across before....some of them very new bloggers....read the posts and am now watching a few of them. I hope that they fulfill the promise that these posts show. I would not normally have used the "list" to find new blogs to read....in fact I tend to avoid the top bloggers....but I like this and feel that this will add to the way I find new bloggers...add but not replace for I have always checked out the blogs of new commenters on my blog and also gone to blogs when I have seen someone leave what I consider to be an interesting, well thought out or witty comment. I am not getting into a discussion about what is or isn't a quality blog as that is a subjective thing. I know what I like to read and that's all that matters to me. But I do NOT like the drama and backbiting caused by the current list.....or in fact displayed here. This test page has ensured that I have been able to view what is current and to see a wide selection of types of blogs. I am fairly confident that this will be a good move and that Blogland as a whole will benefit. ~~Anais Nin~~

My two cents in this whole matter for what it's worth... popularity and respect on this site comes because you earn it, not because you scream the loudest for it... Myself; I think we should leave the blogs the way they are, and maybe incorporate the Magazine section as a way to highlight new and upcoming bloggers...That would make a little more sense to me, rather than try to rebuild the wheel We all come here for a reason and we all bring something to the table while were here...some are good and others not so good...That's Life...But that's also this thing we call blogville.... some times the things that comes from between my ears makes me pause for reflection

Aryana, sometimes you are a genius... I have been reading some comments on some posts about the rotating lists and been looking a little at the output of the existing six test systems... they do appear to throw up a variety of different blogs covering all grouping here and each has it's own merits and downsides so the idea struck me as follows... Rotate the lists... We have (currently) 8 rotating lists coded and on test already, but no one actually needs to decide if one is better than the other we can rotate the lists as well..... sounds silly initially but... On first login one of the eight lists is chosen at random - say for example List 4 - and upon a page refresh List 5 is display and again on a refresh List 6, List 7, List 8, List 1,2,3 and back to List 4... and the system could scroll through all lists upon each page visit/refresh. (It could be a little more complex, such as changing the list every 60 seconds automatically, ie moving from list 4 to list 5 etc after a period - but that might be an extra development). Any members "current" list number could be saved in a cookie and updated with each page refresh.. or maybe there is a simpler way to achieve this. What does this achieve? While each list might have 20 posts on it, using a series of rotating lists could expose 360 posts. Althougt many posts will make more than one list - a quick check shows that the initial six lists were exposing up to 100 posts per refresh. It allows new extraction lists to be added if other new ideas are put forward (just like list 7 and list 8 were added today). Not all members would see the same list at the same time as the each member would be looking at one of the various lists. If any list manipulation is possible it matters little as there are other lists that page visitors will see so list manipulation would be meaningless. Personal comments.... I would like to see the effect of a 7 day rather than 2 day decay period... just some people may miss blogs if they do not log in every day - but this may make the list too "old" I accept, but it helps get exposuse to bloggers who only post weekly as well. But this is a personal opinion, others may feel that they should get better exposure if they blog every day. I would prefer if bloggers could have only one post per list (their top post) as the idea is to expose more bloggers, and a list with two or three posts by the same blogger may "hide" other people and, once one post is read, members can decide to stay and read others without having extra posts on any one list. Active posts may make all lists for a while but this is no problem as users see only one list at a time. It helps expose the really active posts. No system is perfect and none will keep everyone happy but, if the idea of using several lists in rotation was implemented it would allow the criteria to be tailored upon implementation without affecting everything. Extra lists could be added or removed as experience shows their effect. (Just as Ranking Option 7: Random, and Ranking Option 8: Random with at least one comment have been added to the test page). Finally, thanks for all the effort and feedback put into this... I am just trying to be helpful and add my two cents worth without offending or upsetting anyone or suggesting that they do not have legitimate concerns.

Am I the only one to see the "celebrity mentality" on some of these comments? Asking people to not directly talk to them...but to talk to the "agent" who will then pass on the communication to the "celebrity". Really? It's just showing how this "list" has gone to people's heads. An inflated sense of "EGO" is showing it's true self. There are literally thousands of people on the blogs every single day...more than enough for everyone who blogs to have watchers...why the big deal about having your name in the top ten? Your watchers will still be there...cheering you on... If it truly is just about the pleasure of blogging...then this should be a non-issue. It comes down to that darn EGO again...it needs to be fed...with the admiration of others...it wants to be seen every day...it needs to be stroked constantly...it has become...quite literally...a seperate entity from the blogger it belongs to. We all blog for different reasons...some do so as a simple part of therapy for themselves...some do it because they love to write...some blog for the pure joy of blogging. And then there are those who blog selfishly...requiring of their readers to be faithful...and to join in...to stroke this "EGO" constantly in the blog...to tell this "EGO" how much it is desired...loved...and necessary for them to survive. It makes it's readers constantly reassure it that it is the best...the most beautiful...it reminds one of the witch in "Snow White"...frequently asking for reassurance that it is indeed...the most beautiful in all the land. And the very thought of not being all loved...not being shown as a number on a list...top or otherwise...is so undesirable...that threats of "hiding" or not blogging in a public forum are being thrown about. If this "EGO" were on board with the changes being talked about...it should really have no problem with this change. True beauty doesn't have to beg for people to tell them...real sincerity shines through...it is not selfish or unkind...and it doesn't play cruel games with people's minds. These changes should be made...it's time for some freshness around here...new blogs and commenters should be recognized...we are all just as good as the person next to us. Who gets to say who is quality and who isn't? I sure don't want that job! It's a judgement filled time bomb that needs to be diffused. And...this blog post is like the Carly Simon song...you're so vain...you probably think this post is about you... And if you do...then your EGO is doing the thinking for you. This is just a general post about some of the stuff I've read here. If you think this is about you...then it probably is. You need to check your EGO...it needs an overhaul. Not everyone loves you...not everyone "picks" on you...not everyone hangs on every word you say...we all have our own opinions of who's blog we like to frequent...and just because we don't find your blog appealing...we are not the "enemy" you make us out to be. And...to most of us...it doesn't mean anything. To you...it means blocking and banning and telling on people like a teachers pet. I know that not all people like me or what I'm saying...and I'm ok with that...it's life. I'm not going hide under a table and pout about it...I'm gonna keep on blogging...just like I have always done. Let's be adults here... Blog on fellow posters...blog on! Smooches!

Aryana, I have been watching the test page for a few days now and I have to say that I've done a full u-turn on it. I think because you've tied the rankings into the age of the post - the newer the higher the rank - the half life of is posts is short and posts decay off the list reasonably quickly, giving new posts better exposure. It seems to me that whichever criterion/criteria you choose to combine with that, we'll have a regularly updated and refreshed page which will give exposure to so many more bloggers than before, and it will highlight the trending blogs which are generating interest and discussion. As McSirSpirit666wine suggested earlier, perhaps it would be good to combine as many of the criteria as is practical, but otherwise, if it has to be limited to a couple of measures I think it will work fine whichever ones are chosen. Well done, and by jove, I think you may have cracked it here! I've also looked at the random options since you put them up, and those seem to work reasonably well too, I wondered if it would be possible to have a Trending list and a Random list? Maybe not, but either way, splendid work!!

Aryana....as you know I have been using the test lists for a few days now. I am surprised to see that a blog which is on the recent posts list, was posted this morning and has over 40 comments but as of now is not showing on any of the lists. I would have thought it would appear on all 6 lists.......Is there a bug or is there the facility for members to opt out of inclusion in the new lists? ~~Anais Nin~~

Why not allow all six methods? Save the method you last had chosen. Allow changing the method to any of the six at any time. I doubt anyone would be top of all six, making any ranking drama worthless and nonexistent. (would anyone brag, I'm top of method # 2, 3, & 5? ... No). People will choose the method that shows more of the blogging styles that they prefer, yet still have the option of checking the other methods when they are bored or curious. Bullies and multiple troll files..are on the rise here. I know it is impossible to deal with all of them. But in my opinion, get rid of the blocking on blogs and magazine. As block and bully is on the rise..and is getting worse. Blocking was a great idea a while ago to protect some members from bullies. But the bullies and multi profilers tend to block and bully. How!! Look at the freinds list of the intented target, block all of them and then proceed to bully, insult, degrade and of course no one to bring it to your attention or stand up for you.

Why not just randomly select 20 blogs each day as "featured blogs", regardless of their quality or content? Maybe limit it to blogs that have been active in the past 30 days or some other time frame? All this judging on quality, length of comments, length of posts, etc... it just seems to unnecessarily complicate things. 2022... it HAS be better, right?!

I agree. Keep scores and ranking out of it. Why can't the Most Recent Post list be extended? Scores just seem to go to some people's heads (as witnessed in this post). Someone mentioned they get over inflated egos, I fully agree with this. Something happens to the bloggers and their ego when they make the top of the list. It is for this reason I think all rankings and scoring needs to be done away with all together so no one feels superior. Apart from my watched blog list, cruising the Most Recent Post list is how I find new blogs. I stumble across a lot of good blogs that way and there is a huge variety of postings found.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

My opinion is simple; I blog because I enjoy it and I hope to have some cool, funny or interesting discourse. My blog posts are probably not earth shaking in content but I like them. I don't need to be rated and don't care how you rotate them. So, whatever you do, I'm cool with it. I personally don't give a damn about the popular bloggers and their opinions and any need to be seen, heard or noticed. I write my blog because I enjoy it. Rather than changing the ranking/scoring system it might help to change the layout. I suspect that for many the layout is such that (like me) when arriving to the blog home page the first two items that are noticed are "My Watched Blogs" and then "Active Blogs (by unique responses)" While "Actively Watched Blogs" is at the top of the column (and could probably stand to be expanded in both number and content - to match the other format with other recommendations) from my understanding the center of a screen/view is the prime real estate and receives the most attention. If it were solely my decision I'd add a section for official posts where "Actively Watched Blogs" is currently located (finding this post was purely chance on my part) and expand the "Actively Watched Blogs" to a list of about ~6 (while maintaining the same background logic) and drop "Active Blogs (by unique responses)" to lower on the page. It may not completely resolve any underlying issues, but it would (very likely) change the focus to a degree (pretty sure that I'm not the only one that doesn't scroll down the full length of the blog main page.

Change does'nt always work better for the whole community......just look at the new message centre on here, and what a disaster it has turned out to be, it does'nt even work properly half the time, lol. I think a change was needed for the blogs main page, i just hope it works properly when they introduce it to the site?

Well you can't call the cops. If you are blocked from the humilation and cyber bullies. If they got rid of the Damn blocking on the advice line. It would not errase it totally, but the intended target is out in the open vulnerable to attack from all sides. Now 300 against 1 is that right. If you go on the advice line you may see alot of members insulting other members to know end. and they can't defend themselves or even report exactly what is being said. Now if you have not free quented the advice line that often you would not see the amount of bullying directed at other members. So how can you call the cops if you are not in direct sight of the attack. And to prove it you have to find someone on here that has not been blocked and email them and ask then to forward it to you somehow.

I'm joining this discussion a bit late but I don't see the logical connection between visibility or frequency of blog posts equating to quality. They don't. The number of visitors and comments might equate to popularity but that doesn't mean the blog should be regarded as a quality blog. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones

As a "bottom" dweller, so to say, I'm somewhat removed from any of this. Neither popular by responses, nor prolific a blogger, it will affect me little. But, I do see where top bloggers are coming from, having thier work labeled as "not quality" blogs, or "not popular" by responses. Anyone would feel slighted by these phrases! I vote for a status quo, study the system to see who deserves to be viewed, not picked by a computer that chooses them by set stadards or content, but by the bloggers that view them n enjoy thier works! Romance her heart, tease her body, enjoy the company shared in bed n out! Treasure every moment spent together, in good times n bad! Please take your drama and your version of the truth back to your blog. This is not the post to continue all this drama nonsense, not just you Chuck, but all the comments just for fanning this flame. I doubt the poster (Ayrana? I forgot her name due to the extreme nonsense) is even reading this anymore, goodness knows I wanted to stop, but I continued on hoping that some resolution about the actual topic happened. Instead, I see accusations that I don't agree with. Maybe I'm just seeing it different, but all I've seen is Sandra replying to any comment that references her directly or indirectly. That's what she does, part of the reason so many people enjoy her blog. I have yet to see her actually initiate drama. I finally posted this here because I feel this post has been trashed and ignored by the poster. In essence, take your drama back to your own drama blogs and leave these improvement posts free of the mindless accusations, lies, and half-truths. Visit my blog if you want to at thax013 and thank you very much!

So you are the defining voice in what determines quality? And you are the final word on what the site is going to do with the lists? Then why did Aryana ask for input when all she had to do was email you? Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
There's absolutely nothing wrong with my comprehension of what you said. Popularity and a large number of responses to a blog post does NOT equate to quality. A large number of responses could be a strong indicator of popularity but not necessarily quality. Here's an example: Look at the number of people who posted and responded to AsianMatchMate.com when they created the infamous "fuckaslut" website. There were a huge number of responses which meant that the topic was meaningful to many many people. It was not an indicator of quality by any means. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
You're the one who seems to think she has the last and final word on what defines quality. Go back and read your own words. You seem to think your opinion is the only one that counts. You are one person. You are singular. You are not the majority. Nor am I. You have one vote. So do I. You're acting as "Miss Know it all" and if that's the case, then why should AsianMatchMate.com even have Aryana on staff when they could just simply call or email you. And you can make your proclamation across all of the land known as Blogville. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
I don't need any help or assistance in understanding your comments. I'm an intelligent, well-educated woman and a native English speaker. You're not doing yourself any service by repeating yourself and reposting the same old tripe. Just understand that I along with many other people do NOT agree with you and your definition of what constitutes a quality blog and we have the absolute right to disagree with you. You do not dictate the standards here. You are one person; a singular individual so please refrain from thinking and assuming that you speak for all of us. You don't. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
As it seems to be the essential part of a quality comment, I then repeat myself too: If you come here to discuss, be then open to discussion. Your blog, your rules; community blog, their rules. Accept that you get comments, questions etc here too. If you have no reply, no reasoning, no proof, your bad, not ours. Don't comment here if you are not ready to defend your views. Very simple rule or way of life. Outside your blog. Quote function works for your comments too, and this way you cannot say you didn't say anything like that. Shouting for help is not working here. You are a top blogger, you should know what to say and what to expect and not go hiding behind a mamma. Your desires are not a topic of this discussion.
