I Read The Comments In The CEO's Blog Again

OK, for those of you who didn't notice, the CEO of this site asked for suggestions the other day in his post, Tell us how to improve the blogs. It was hard not to notice, as his posts stayed on the top of the Recent Posts list for two days. So today, I took another look at the comments people left and there were a few things that really pissed me off.

First, the elitist attitude of some of the gold members was brought to my attention by Papy in her post, [post 260079]. I have to agree with her on the attitude of some of the gold members. In one case, InfiniteDiest feels the blogs should be for gold members only. He even has a poll about this on his blog. Mind you, he seems to have been a member for less than a month too. But a few others, they feel standard bloggers shouldn't have any rights whatsoever and they should get added perks. I mean, some really swing their gold balls in the comments. One went so far to say, the gold ball bloggers should be at the top of the list, so they get more visibility, it shouldn't be based on comments.

No, I think the current system, with unique comments is much better than the old, based on how many total comments you have. We're seeing new bloggers hit the top list. Case in point are [blog PurryKitty2] and [blog Samantha192]. If we went by total comments, they wouldn't be anywhere near the top. But in the past month, their blogs have gotten lots of comments from different people, who got them to the top of the list. Under the old system of total comments per month, we had all the comment whoring, where people were basically spamming their own blogs, answering each person who comments individually, to get more comment counts, to get to the top of the blogs.

Blogs are a great way for standard members who actually have something to say to get noticed on the site. There are so many members, so many dead profiles, that standard members who have been here a while are so far down the browse list that it's amazing anyone even knows they're still here. You can network on the blogs, instead of waiting for gold or silver members to write to you.

I also saw a bunch of people say they want backgrounds, streaming video, audio players, media players... This isn't My Space and if that's the kind of badly designed crap you want, go there. I refuse to even visit the pages of my friends on My Space. Why? Because, unless you have a fucking gig of RAM, it's going to crash your browser and in some cases, your computer. The pages take up to five minutes to load, even with a DSL connection. If you think those pages look good and you want crap music blasted at you whenever you hit a page, go there. This isn't My Space, it is forum software in the blogs, it doesn't do crap like that. Oh, but you all won't get read over there, because there are so many blogs there, you get no visibility and no new members are going to find you. Tough. The last thing I want to try to do is read pink text against a starry night flickering background. If you want to be read, you have to make your text and background readable. Hasn't it occurred to any of you that 10% of the general population is colorblind and if you start fucking around with font colors and backgrounds, you can end up with a page that colorblind people can't see. There are three types of colorblindness and there are test sites on the web, so you can see if the colorblind can read it. You wouldn't believe what they can't see. If any of you have any sort of IT degree, you know, My Space is a classic example of WHAT NOT TO DO when designing a readable website.

Why do people have such a hard on against Most Popular Blogs list? As I mentioned before, since they changed the way comments are counted, we are seeing new names on the list, not just the same 15 people over and over again. I did notice a lot of the screamers about this were men, some of whom used to be on the list at some time or another. Yes, admittedly, of the 15 top blogs, 12 are women, 2 couples and 1 man. Yes, a lot of the women have provocative pictures that get men looking at their blogs and leaving meaningless comments. But you know what? Because of the fact there are so many men on here, that list isn't going to change. Men are still going to visit the blogs of women with provocative pics and leave comments like "Nice tits." or, "Hey, can I meet you?" However, I saw comments about the top bloggers that don't exist and some of them came from people who are in the top 50 bloggers. Or haven't they found the "view all" link on the most popular blogs? Know what? This site is fast approaching 100,000 blogs and there are over a million posts out of those bloggers. So if you're even in the top 100 (and most of the people who screamed are,) or even 200, pat yourself on the fucking back. It means people are reading you and commenting on what you have to say and it means you have more to say than, "Why aren't women falling on my dick?" and/or, "What do you think of my tits?"

I guess what I'm saying is, I never realized there was so much bitterness and jealousy around here, especially based on the most popular blog list. Do you have something to say to your reader base, or is this high school, where you have to be one of the most popular ?

I actually saw a comment in there, can our balls show next to our names on our main blog page, so SHE doesn't have to be bothered clicking on profiles to find out. WHY THE FUCK DOES IT MATTER TO YOU PEOPLE IF SOMEONE IS PAYING OR NOT? Do you all really thing that paying members have things that are more relevant to say than non-paying members? That they're more intelligent, educated, well read and erudite? Because, let me tell you, that is not the case. Most of the gold members who start blogs are saying things like they can't believe they're paying to write to women who either don't answer them, or turn them down and don't they have the right to get laid?

Now, with all this said, I noticed today as I went through the rankings that I'm somehow in the top 50. How the hell did I do that when I don't post pictures of my tits or pussy, I don't write about all the sex in my mind, as I don't seem to be having any in real life, I don't write erotica, I don't talk about who in the blogs I want to fuck, I don't post pics of various bloggers with hot pics and make comments about them... So how the hell did I make the top 50 when I mostly write about politics, religion and how clueless the men who write to me are?

And I really wish they'd listen and add a fill in the blank mood for us, as my mood over all of this is truly bewildered.

Oh and all you people bitching about the slot machine have done it. I just saw makesupregnant in the slot machine. I will never feel clean again.

Bitterness and jealousy are everywhere, Ann.

That will never change.

Nice rant, though.

Eh...I never cared about popularity lol. People who think they have the 'right' to get laid and bitch about the stupidest things are in my mind, losers and whiners. With that said, I'm just glad I have a few people who view my blog and are nice enough to comment!

Some people here will never change LOL.

I'm leaving the site end of March. To those who want to keep in touch, see blog for details.

Thanks Division. I know jealousy and bitterness are everywhere. But when there are 99,000+ blogs, not everyone can make that top 15 list.

Thanks Lil.

popmuse, exactly. How many new blogs from gold members have we seen that are nothing but, "The ads for this site promised me I'd get laid as soon as I joined!" I want to read content and real thoughts.

Thanks nightstalker. I can see how many people read each post and with the new view all visitors link, just who is visiting on a daily basis. I prefer blogs myself where I learn something, where I see a new point of view, where I'm not just looking at yet another erotic fantasy. We all whine and rant at some point or another, but to rant that you're not getting enough hits on your blog is something only you can fix. But you do know, GoddessOfTheDawn does have tips on how to customize your fonts and colors, right?

Purry, exactly. He asked for the opinions of all bloggers, not just the gold members. So to see all the bitching about how gold members should get special treatment and that it's been the same exact people on the top list since the blogs began, really pissed me off. That list existed before you started blogging. The list is fluid. Today, Samantha is off the list and [blog allseeky] is on the list. That's a name I've never even seen before. So, it's all sour grapes and jealousy when people scream about the list.

Miss Ann, great post, yes, the whining about the most whatever list is ridiculous. Taken with a grain of salt, or tossed over the shoulder for some luck!

again, great post, thanks!!

Looking at the top 50 list, I find that most of the people on my watch list are there. That is not because I'm a shallow blog groupie, but because people who write something worth reading get read, and collect comments.

But take away this new poll crap, and Samantha192 would disappear like melting snow. I know, catty, huh?

Two of my favorites both posted today about the list jealousy, you and kelli4u2dew, and neither of you is in the top 10. Go figure.

mygmyg, I have actively tried to avoid drama around here. Except the fake deaths. They're fun.

Voodoo, my blog is shite, but you keep coming back? Jealous weirdo.

This is for me calling you a Liberal with a capital L, isn't it? And I nominated makesupregnant for a Bloggie as most scary.

blueguy, most of my watch list, which is about three pages now, are smaller bloggers, most of whom aren't on every day. But when I see whinging coming from people who are just missing the front page, it has to be sour grapes. But Samantha has already disappeared, replaced by someone else. I don't get the people who feel that just because they put a few thoughts on the internet, people should flock to them. Do they expect that on Live Journal and My Space too? Of course not. But here, they expect to be a major sensation with their first post, get to the top of the list and never leave.

Dysgyzed, do you think anyone would believe he was CEO if he did show dick pics? Of course not. But you might want to avoid makesupregnant. His fucking pic combined with his um, "poetry" makes me shudder. I mean, shudder badly.

Purry, I'm NOT upset with you. I'm saying, that people were bitching it is always the same people in the top 15. I used you and Samantha as evidence it is NOT ALWAYS the same people at the top of the list and if they were using the old way, where comment whoring counted and every comment from the start of your blog counted, no one new would have a chance on the list. I'm not upset with you in the slightest. I'm upset with the people who are saying, make the blogs just for gold members, it's a popularity contest where no one new has a chance of making the list and crap like that. I actually like the fact you've made it to the top of the list, as it proves that the new system gives everyone a fair chance.

I was actually criticizing the people who posted to the CEO's blog about how they're not on the list, why don't gold members show up first, why are standard members allowed to blog, it's been the exact same 15 people on the top list since the start of the blogs. I was pointing out, no, it isn't and the new system is far more fair, as newer bloggers who are read have a better chance of making the list. Your blog is case in point of that. That with the old system, newer bloggers would never hit the top of the list, but that I like the new system, as newer bloggers are being seen. I used you as an example of that. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

Nightstalker, I misunderstood. However, when you get into backgrounds, you're running the chance that your post can't be read. Not just by people who find things like pink against a black background hard to read, but by the color blind. If you look, you will find color blindness testers on the web. You plug in a website, hit the button and it shows you how it looks to a color blind person. You wouldn't believe some of what they can't see. There are also three types of color blindness. So what looks fine for one type can be a disaster for another type. Such as, I did the RSS feed thing for my blog for this thread. I hit the I'm 18 button, etc, came to this thread. Copied the external link, how people who don't belong to the site see the blog URL into the Vischeck tester. For people with deuteranope color blindness, the most common form, your text in this thread looks black. That is one of the reasons I always use the boring black text. 1 in 12 people have some form of color blindness, which means the law of averages says colorblind people read the blogs. This is why I think backgrounds are a bad idea. They blogs should be functional for all.

nightstalker, you know, it would be nice if we could use images in the posts, not just the picture we can choose to go with the blog posting. I see what you mean by that. Yes, it would also be nice if we could use network album pictures there. A few times, I've thought if a pictures I'd like to use in a post, but can't. So I do understand that. But I'm still not thrilled with changing background colors. It's bad enough when you come in through Passion dot com with is the mostly pink background on the blogs and someone on A.F.F. has written a post in the pink that basically matches the background color there, as they're seeing the grey. But I can't tell you how many times I've been tempted to use a font that matches the background color, just to piss people off. Heh heh heh.

Thank you, redlips.

Interesting observations. It would be nice, though, to at least add some basic WYSISYG tools for editing posts and comments.

Canton, yes, preview tools would be nice. There are preview tools in the polls, I've noticed. That seems to use more standard forum software than for regular posts.

sexyeyes, it scares me every time I see him in the slot machine. However, to get in there, someone has to be watching his blog. I know I'm not watching it, so don't blame me. Blame the people who stuck him in their watched list. What is wrong with those people? And tnak you, it was fun chatting with you, too. We should all use that room more often.

Miss Ann ~~
I'm so among the little folks here that I'm use to being a "bottom feeder".
But the Blogs were a way of getting a part of me "out in the open" where I had a chance to make friends, contacts and not feel the pressure of the Silver and Gold members who are up and going places.

Now, how is one (standard members) expected to be noticed, when those upper members can make it "all pretty" on the blogs and get more recognition then ever. OK, maybe it's just my opinion, but it is my humble opinion.
It was nice for awhile.
I was on "common ground" for a little while.

Great Post!
Huggies
BTW ~~ How's the friendly folks? Say hello for me ... thx hun

Thanks mizzkitka!

papy, you said it well enough that I did go back and look. You were quite eloquent in your post.

Maggie, that's the thing. When you use colors and backgrounds, no one knows until you go and look at the blog post. On the front page, we are all equal, in order of our posts. I can tell you, as I've become firmly entrenched in middle age, my eyes aren't what they were when I was, well, even 35. So there are several blogs I never read, as even with the grey or Passion pink backgrounds, the text colors are hard to read. So, I don't bother to read what's going to hurt my eyes. Yes, I know bifocals will take care of the problem, but I'm stubborn. The blogs and chat are the only places standard and paying members are in even ground.

Kaliedascope, no, it isn't always bitching and whining when there's a difference of opinion. But some of the people in that thread, well, I don't know how they walk, dragging their balls behind them. Gold and silver members already have many perks standard members get. The blogs and chat are the only place they're on even ground. One person who is new to the blogs, actually went so far as to say, only gold members should be allowed to write blogs or comment on them, silver members can leave sticky pad comments and standard members shouldn't even be able to read them. Chat and blogs are the only places that all have equal access.

Extra perks are fine, but to do away with the most read list, in favor of listing people by their ball color is a bad idea. Most of the gold members I've read on here are whining that no one wants to fuck them because they're married, all the women are fake, the site is a rip off and where are the 20 year olds who want 50 year old men. I have a gold ball too at the moment, but that doesn't mean that I don't want standards infecting the gene pool. Your comments in the CEO's blog weren't even the ones I was talking about. The ones that stick out in my mind are the ones from the guy who thinks blogs should be the sole property of gold members, the couple who want the balls showing next to a person on their blog, because they don't want to be bothered reading anything a standard member might have to say and they don't want to be bothered clicking profiles to see who to read... In other words, the ones who do have an elitist viewpoint. What mostly offended me are the people who want to turn this into My Space. If they want My Space, take their blogs there. All the embedded crap there actually crashes my Mozilla and sometimes my aging laptop. I'm on DSL and I've been sent to My Space pages that take 5 minutes to load on broadband. The server here is already bogged down. Not to mention, if everyone starts using the dreaded MIDI, I will be tempted to buy a gun.

Yes, if a person is paying for gold, they should have some extra perks, other than the advanced search that never seems to work. But there should also be some even ground too, for standard members to get noticed. Not everyone can afford a ball. Things get said all the time about the women who do have balls. Such as, if we're buying balls, then we all must be "professionals" as there's no reason for any woman to have to buy one. I disagree with that, as there are so many dead profiles. As a standard, I was pages behind women who haven't visited the site in three years.

You know, once upon a time, even standard members, even the men, got a certain number of profile views a day and were able to email women. I still wish they could see profiles, at least some, so we ladies could stop dealing with stupid questions in chat. Oh, what am I saying? Silver and gold members are too lazy to click a profile too and still ask a/s/l. But I just believe the blogs should be for all and they shouldn't do things to them to make them unreadable. There are enough problems with the server already.

im your man, if they took blogging rights away from standard members, I would take my blog elsewhere, along with them. Live Journal has paid memberships too. But the free members are still allowed to blog and comment on blogs. As I said, I like the system the way it is, a preview page would be nice. It would also be nice if the spell check worked in edit or in the comments, instead of freezing up. But I do know, if they do take away blogging rights for standard members, I'll be joining the group that's already on 360.
