Pick A Pet

Over a year ago I had to re-home my beloved cat of nearly 12 years, Mr. Binx. He repeatedly developed urinary tract infections despite special food and veterinary intervention. This caused poor Mr. Binx to pee on the floor and with my running a daycare that just wasn't working......

I had such feelings of guilt I would "hear" him pawing at the back door months later. He thought he was a and went in and out of the house to use the potty. (most of the time)

Well, now that I have WAY too much time on my hands I am feeling the desire to obtain a pet.

Trouble is I have no idea what kind of pet to get.

It can't be a cat, cuz if I were to have a cat it would have to be Mr. Binx.

It can't be a dog, cuz after my adventures in sitting I darn well know purp is N~O~T a person.

So, purp is open to any and all suggestions for a new pet to lavish some love and attenton on.

What should my new pet be?

I haven't had one myself but some people like pet birds. Apparrently Cockatoos are pretty friendly but require a lot of attention. Rabbits are cuddly but I don't know of any that have been trained to fetch. Perhaps you need something like a "Tribble" from Star Trek.

Purp, how soon you forget. You know the best pet for you is your very own pet wiener.......dog. It's 1/2 dog and 1/2 play toy. Kills two birds with one stone.

I understand you're heart broken over Mr. Binx, but Mr. Binx isn't the kitty you need now and therefore you aren't the kitty mommy he needs. Go with a spayed female kitty. Can't imagine life without my other kids, my cats.

There were the CUTEST kittens at the pet store.......but I mostly concentrated on the Degus and pet Rats. We had pet rats in the past when my daughter was young and they were friendly and intelligent as well as clean. Thanks for trying to let me off the hook on my guilt over Mr. Binx.

I am very house broken.

Not a harsh word could be spoken.

I am snugly and warm for thee.

On your rug I probably will not pee.

Out the back door I could hide.

Till it is time for my ride>>lol!!

A pat on my head and a sugary cookie.

Right after I get some nooky!

Soft Hugs, sweetie. You must be feeling some better?

I have a trouser ferret that just adores being stroked...

Been a while since they last let me out into polite society. Resurfacing, catching a breath, & catching up.

And while I got my Broad-Brimmed Pimping Hat on, could I cajole all of y'all to Comment on, Alone In A Cloud? It's probably the best thing that I've written!

Lately...

LMAO......I do NOT think anything that starts with "trouser" qualifies as an actual pet.

Hi! What about getting a Sugar Glider? They're not real hard to take care of.

Whatever you choose for a pet, if it's one you haven't had before, read anything you can find on the care of that species. Food, room temp, habits (day or night creatures), disease, how much attention your pet will need.

purpletrashcan replies on 11/15/2009 9:41 am:
I am not sure exactly what a sugar glider is, but I know my best friend wanted one a few years ago. I will lok it up on google when I am done here.....thanks

ROTFLMAO See my latest blog post, titled I Have a Kitten.

Might I suggest a ferret? They make excellent pets, kids love 'em, they're smart and easily litter trained.

LOL again, before I hit post, I scrolled up and read some previous posts -- including WonDumfuk.

purpletrashcan replies on 11/15/2009 9:42 am:
Now both you and Won have suggested a ferret......but I have heard they are somewhat like a naughty 2 year old. LOL I will do some googling research. Thanks hun

Oh I forgot to tell you.I adopted a dog from the shelter last week.He is great.Walks well on the leash is friendly and house broken and absolutely adores my daughter.I hope in choosing a new pet you give the local shelters and rescues in your area a look.

purpletrashcan replies on 11/15/2009 4:23 pm:
I certainly will......thats the best place to find a deserving/needy pet.

Right now I have dogs,a cat fish and turtles. We've had birds, lizards, guinie pigs and frogs here also.

I know you say dogs are out but if they are trained right they really are the best pet in my opinion if they are trained correctly.
Cats are a close second and a bird would be in third. All require training to be the best pet possible.

Parakeetts are nice my daughter had hers trained to sit on her shoulder and it would sing to her.

It's really depending on how much time you have and if you want an indoor pet, outdoor pet or a one that can be both.

Good luck in choosing a new animal friend.

Roger

I am leaning towards a small animal that will stay in a cage but is friendly and handleable so I can interact with it every day.

I was going to suggest a purple parrot but if he keeps you so busy chatting away at home we may not see as much of you here.

A ferret they come litter box trained just as a cat does you can keep him in a nice cage when need be with no troubles and kids love'em. The included pic (I hope it comes thru) is of my buddy Axle, the day I brought him home in June of 2007, he was 8 weekes old then.

Axle is SO cute........but I have heard ferrets are like naughty toddlers who never get out of the terrible two's.....
