Having grown up in Texas, prime tornado territory, yes, I have seen and been very close to a few. The best one was with me standing outside watching as across the street one was tearing through a mattress store. Beds flying around in circles inside the store, wind roaring, my friends mom yelling at me to come inside, and me standing there totally amazed at what was happening just across the street. I never did go in. I watched it as it bounced off down the street, ripping trees out along the way. Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

I've never been near a tornado, Norman. I guess I've been lucky because they do come through Missouri from time to time. I will google that Town Hall for Hope thing.

Alabama is great place for a tornado to stop in, ya know cause we've got all the mobile home parks around. Plus when the TV people go out and interview them, they make it seem like you should hear Dueling Banjos anywhere ya go. But seriously, in 1997 or so we had an F5 tornado touch ground just north of Birmingham. I worked in a level 3 emergency room in B'ham at the time. That means we didn't get the really bad stuff. It hit a Baptist church, it was Wednesday night, they we're having a Bible study. A few people including the preacher's wife were killed. We got the preacher without a scratch on him but in bad shape with survivor's remorse. I had another guy with a broom handle through both of his calves, he'd been dragging himself around his basement trying to find his wife without success. The hot water heater fell over on her head, she was dead. The only tornado I've ever witnessed was in Arizona of all places! Saw a water spout in Mobile bay once.
